I'll have to admit, I don't buy CD's anymore. I used to buy two a week when it was the only media available, now I just download and go on my merry way. I know that some people still collect LP's but vinyl is final. I sold a bunch of my CD's and I don't miss them at all. Are you still buying the jewel case or are you just buying the digital card?
[question posted by gitfiddleplayer]
responses and comments:
Buy? What is this buy you speak of? Lol. I buy nothing, I download it all for free. [darkjedi]
You and my buddy, he's got that real time software, nice stuff. [gitfiddleplayer]
I still occasionally buy CDs. I have a CD player so I may as well use it. Besides, I can't always listen to stuff on the computer, Shelly and the kid want a computer turn too lol [fwidman]
Now serving number 3, number 3. [gitfiddleplayer]
Actually, I haven't bought any music in a long time. I don't have an MP3 player or any fancy gadget like that and I really don't listen to much more than the radio except for on occasion. Or when I am driving on a long trip. Now get this, even though my car is a 1999 and cd's came out in the mid 80's, my car has a cassette player in it. So I have one set of tapes in the console, and a box that I keep under the seat especially for trips. I probably have about 100 cd's and about 150 cassettes. I just keep listening to the same old music. Although, now and again I will pull up some music from YouTube or something similar and listen to it while I am working online. Thanks for starting this interesting discussion, and have a great day! [kykidd]
That's one heck of a time machine you've got. Cassettes huh? I've still got one, I need to just buy the silly download. [gitfiddleplayer]
We do still buy regular CD's. I don't even have an MP3 player so I still listen to real CD's in the car. I'll get up with the times one of these days. [sunnflr]
I hope so Angel. [gitfiddleplayer]
I don't really buy music all that much anymore, but the last few times I did it was through download. I would go back to CDs if I didn't have a computer anymore, though. [desertdarlene]
Actually - neither. i usually get music from my sisters or family members for my mp3 player and in my car i pay for the XM satellite radio rather than using cds that get scratched and wrecked. I havent bought a cd in about 3 years for myself. I did buy a few for my little sister this summer for the houseboat trip car ride because we couldnt take the xm radio. [saundyl]
LOL Luckily now shes on to Camp Rock and Jonas Brothers (I'll get tired of them before she does I'm sure) [saundyl]
I have not seen you around lately. I have you are fine. I have iTunes and have bought and downloaded music from there. I have not burned any of the music yet because my old computer CD drawer did not open. My son told me he would get me a new drawer and send it to me. WEll he die more than that he bought me a new computer for Christmas so I can now burn CDs and DVD's but I do not have any blank ones. My husband buys CD's I think I will start buying them from iTunes and burn them for him so we both can have the music. [teapotmommommerced]
We do both. And what we download we burn onto cds so we have a backup. My husband's reasoning is that the odds of something happening to both the cds and the computer are pretty slim. Hope there's no fire cause than we are screwed. But we will copy bought cds unto the computer too. So we always have two of everything. [Ruthep]
we need one. Our car has a hard drive in it so we can download all our tunes into it. I think we will run out of space there soon though. LOL. [Ruthep]
Vinyl is back. more and more albums come as Lps, Cds, and downloads. I like to buy CDS a lot. That way I get so much more. I get the full package of all the songs the way the artist intended. I also get extra material that only come with the cd. If I download I will usually get the one song, or a few. There are hidden gems on an album that never gets played. I know I could download th whole albun. But I like to keep it on a CD anyways. So music I really really like still get bought on CDS. [teison2]
Cool, if it works for you then go for it. [gitfiddleplayer]
As much as I love new technological gadgets I am usually the last to acquire them. I am perpetually financially challenged. sad So I haven't had a chance to use the digital card. I do maintain the displays for them at two stores I service. [savak03]
I do merchandising in several different stores for a few clients. The ones I was referring to though are Fred's where I service the DVD's primarily but this includes the music pass display. [savak03]
I haven't bought a CD for months. I listen to music streaming online while i do stuff on my computer. I don't really have any other music player but i might get a mp3 one day so i can listen to music when i'm out. [antioxidant]
I recommend it. [gitfiddleplayer]
I have not bought a CD in over a year. I download music and burn it onto a CD, that way I get all the music that I really like, plus I can just listen to it on my laptop. [irishmist]
I'm with you on that. [gitfiddleplayer]
Hi git, I have a collection of Glenn Miller LPS along with Nat king cole and a couple of others, I would still liketo collect 45rpms. But of course noone has them andif they do, they don't have the one I like. I know listen to all my oldies on my computer or my ipod.whistle [kaleegirl45]
Good music! Some stuff just doesn't transfer as well to digital, keep those baby's dusted off and spinning. [gitfiddleplayer]
I don't really spend for CD. I only download and burn and presto I have my favorite songs on CD. It is my son who loves buying CD. I don't mind, he is using his own money anyway. I am more frugal so whenever I can save, I take the opportunity. [salonga]
I download Fiddle.Do they still sell them in the stores ?w00t [LoudnProud]
Yea, they sell the jewel cases and right next to it is the digital card. [gitfiddleplayer]
Hi Gitfiddleplayer, I haven't any of the latest technology so I still am purchasing CDs, but my car CD player plays MP3 CDs so I have about 10 albums on each CD there that I can listen too. I am sure there will come a time when I have an iPod or something and then perhaps stop buying. I do still have vinyl though and do like hard copies of things. Huggles. Ellie :D [ellie333]
That's cool. I come from the school of tangible too. I have a few signed CD's by the artists so I'll keep those. [gitfiddleplayer]
I shop digitally, cds are space eaters and dust gatherers. [pehpot]
They are, it was so liberating to dump a bunch of them. One less box I have to carry when we move. [gitfiddleplayer]
I buy CD-Rs. lol. I download too. I download to cd so I can pass them out to my girls with their favorite music on them. For myself..it's the digital card. My girls also have ipods. That reduces the need for cds too. [JenInTN]
My kids have iPods too, they are always crooning to some song. [gitfiddleplayer]
I dun buy CDS anymore.. I rarely listen to them nowadays.. ANd if i really want all those songs, i will ask my frenz to download it for me, b4 sending it to me.. hehe ^_^ Other than that, the other alternative will be going to youtube for those songs, and at least i can be guranteed that it will always be playing and it wont be spoiled like when it's being played repeated using a CD.. hehe [kun2349]
That's true, I bought CD's before and kept them nice but used CD's always have a scratch on them, it makes me wonder what people do with them. [gitfiddleplayer]
It's been a long time since I bought a CD. But I don't really like shopping for music digitally, either. I guess I'm old-fashioned that way. I prefer to have a hard copy. I do still buy CD's of bands that I really like. But it's not that often because I already have all the music that I like to listen to all the time, as I don't like much new music. When I do, I am most often content to listen on the radio. I do transfer the music from my CD's to my mp3 player, though, as that is preferable to lugging around a bunch of CD's and listening to a whole album at a time. I would rather listen to it on random play so I get a variety. [Sillychick]
We still buy our CD's. We may not buy them real often but for our music we do buy the CD's. I do have a few songs on my computer that I like to hear but they are not downloaded, they are on a site that has music. [tyc415]
I quit buying CD's, I can burn what I have and still never listen to all of it. I have 169 days of music on iTunes. [gitfiddleplayer]
I'm still with CDs if I'm buying ... which is not very often. I mainly listen to music in the car so CDs suit me better for that. [Wizzywig]
I still have CD's in the car, its the music I burn from my digital library. [gitfiddleplayer]
I have not bought Cds for myself for a long time. I have not even downloaded any mp3s and I am waiting for them to offer downloaded music in the flac format, because that is lossless and I can put on my cds. But I do have a mp3 player that I put the music on. Most of my cds I already put on my hard drive or converted them to flac. I would rather buy Cds for now but right now that is a low priority. [suspenseful]
lolI sort of am a cheapskate and I do not want to buy anything for myself. I would rather buy cds for someone else. And I am afraid that as soon as I buy some cds, something terrible will happen. i have no idea why I feel that way, I guess it was because I was born in Scotland. [suspenseful]
I buy CDs regularly. I have very few downloads and only bother with them when that's the only way to get something I like. I have noticed some downloads are cheaper than the CDs though so I might get more music that way. Free downloads should be stopped. The performer deserves to be paid for his work. [deelin]
No, none of them have been. [gitfiddleplayer]
Yes, I seem to be on the cusp. Don't buy nearly as many CDs as I used to. Notice they seem cheaper than they were and especially taking into account inflation. It is also nice to have something physical, to hold in the hand, with the pictures and blurb... Have downloaded a few MP3's that I've put on my computer media player. Was given a MP3 player for Xmas, but have never been ar*ed to get round to working it out and using it. And just don't like the idea of walking round with these things, oblivious to the outside world. The volume some people play their players at, you think they are sure to go deaf in older age!!!!! ninjaninjaninja [dreamhealer]
Good strategy! happy [dreamhealer]
I still buy CDs when I find something I like. I don't know about any of all that download stuff...LOL I guess I am old school. I still have some old Police albums...he little ones...aren't they called 45s????? Anyways I got 'em... [taface412]
But you can teach an old dog new clicks. [gitfiddleplayer]
I used to buy CDs but when those round things started piling up in the house, I stopped. Now, I download music on the internet. This way, I can reduce the clutter in the house and help protect the environment. CDs are made of non-biodegradable stuff so when you throw these things into the garbage bin, they go straight to the landfill and stay there for like 500 years before they finally start to decompose. [alindahaw]
But if the music is crap then it goes straight to the soil to help things grow. [gitfiddleplayer]
I haven't bought a CD in a very long time, probably when Britney Spears wasn't ever married to Kevin Federline yet. haha! My boyfriend's bought some CDs through iTunes, but that's it. - vanonas www.thelendingstory.com [vanonas]
Hi gitfiddleplayer. I haven't bought a CD since, I don't know when. It's more fun to shop at iTunes and select the individual tunes I want. But I haven't done that in awhile either. Guess I need to go music shopping! Take care. [PearlGrace]
I never really did buy a lot of CD's. The CD's I have now were mostly Christmas Presents from years past, I did get the David Cook CD for Christmas this year, which I love. I am usually pretty satisfied with what is on the radio, and lately I have been listening to a lot of audio books. I have never bought any music digitally, at least not yet. [ladym33]
We dont get every thing on net .Premier Downloading links ,availability of required data ,slow internet speed (in my place), all these makes me to go out and buy CD's.Ofcourse i do admit that i download many movies and songs from net but few in number when compared to my shopping. [randheer001]
Oh we still buy CD's specially the ones we considered rare collection now. My hubby really likes to collect old movies and songs. Yes, we also download some. We don't buy digital card yet. Lollol [Bebs08]
I don't buy CD's anymore either.. i haven't bought one in a over a year.. i think the last one was 3 doors down or staind... i only bought it to support the band... but i'm pretty much done with CD's... i don't ever use cd's anymore so it would be pointless to buy them. i always use my ipod or something... the only time i still have use for CD's is in the car but even then i don't have a car to drive so lol [sameroad]
I do not own an IPOD or a MP3 player yet. I know I seriously need to catch up with the times. :-P So yes I still buy CD's. I do occassionly buy some music online and download to my PC. and I rip all my CD's to my PC. I enjoy buying and building my CD collection though. [marcialoyd]
Me too, I love music. [gitfiddleplayer]
The trouble with digitally downloading music is that you have to store it on your computer and the day the computer crashes, it all vanishes. A Cd will stay a lot longer. I get teh CD and transfer a few selected songs to my computer for ease of listening. [mercuryman3a]
My external hard drive solves that problem. [gitfiddleplayer]
Yup, I still buy CD's especially for those records that I'm collecting coz I buy things which I can sell later on. I still buy the jewel case coz I find it practical to place it in a glass cabinet which I built. I have some vinyls and old cassette tapes too. I'm collecting stuff, hey... these are things intended for my memory exercises when I get old... [manunulat]
I have always bought CD's in the past, but that is about to change because I'm getting an iPod tomorrow. I think it will be nice to buy songs by the track, though, instead of buying a whole album. I rarely like every single song on an album, so I think it would be more convenient to only by one or two songs I really like by an artist instead of having to buy a whole cd. [phoenix25]
Cool! Welcome to the iPod nation. [gitfiddleplayer]
I recently looked at my cd collection and thought "why do i have half this stuff?" I think some of it came through passing fads, or by other people recommending. Sadly it is quite common now to find album that sounds good but ultimately only has maybe a couple of decent songs. In that respect buying the single/few tracks as individuals makes far more sense. My gf bought Metallica's Death Magnetic album for me at christmas and i can quite happily as with most of their stuff, listen to it from start to finish. Where i have the odd song i copy them to pc and the cd gathers dust on the shelf. CD's full of good songs still get a run out on the player. I sold a load of old cd's on ebay before christmas. My dad used to have a massive collection, but now its just the empty cd racks that gather dust in his study hehe [Matthammer]
Had a quick look at the site and it says US and Canada only. Plus it says you can get $5 for some titles ... as if that's a good deal. Most the ones i sell make more than that on ebay and the really good ones make a great deal more. Thanks though :) [Matthammer]
I mostly just download my music. I do buy cds once in a while if I find one I really like for cheap. Then I rip it onto my media player and never touch the cd again. [Lee_Rites]
I get most of my stuff from the library, then I rip it and take the CD back. Win Win. [gitfiddleplayer]
Well I don't buy very many CD's in the first place, unless its something I really like, I just don't like spending money on things like that, just like movies, I don't buy them unless its a movie I want to watch all the time. I've never bought a digital card, I've seen them, but thats it, I also don't like downloading alot of things on my computer, don't want to take up all my memory..lol. [walijo2008]
i'm not doing either one. enjoy the oldies music don't care a thing about the new music that's out. wouldn't waste my money on any of the new. i'm a country music fan & like i said the oldies are what i like. [ANTIQUELADY]
I have the same sort of attachment to CDs as I have to books, I think they're something to be treasured and looked after, used carefully and never damaged or mistreated It's my birthday tomorrow though and I'm getting an mp3 player off my mam, so I won't be using my CDs so much after that. I'll still be keeping and collecting them though - I love them too much! wub rolleyes [louise99]
Thankyou! w00t I got so drunk it's untrue... blink rolleyes [louise99]
Buy? what's "buy"? Do people still "buy" music? I once saw a CD laying around the house with Kenny G's image on it. I think it was my wife's and she was holding on it like some kind of precious collectible, so to show how much I really cared, I removed it from it's case and use it for a beer coaster. (next time she'll ask me before using my favorite t-shirts as a dust rag) [mrghill]
They got me.. ...alone. I can't get it out of my head! Twenty Mylotters egged on by you to find me and start humming... ...Kenny G's Songbird... ...all of them with sore throats... ..all the way from the 122nd floor on an elevator... ...in which every button to every floor was pushed! [mrghill]
I sold a load of my CDs when I cut down on my possessions when I moved, and I've not replaced them. In fact, I think the last CD I bought was as a gift. I'm probably a positive dinosaur, but I wouldn't know where to start when it comes to downloading music. I tend to listen to the radio, or just enjoy the silence. [GreenMoo]
I sold a lot of mine too, it was very liberating to get rid of them. You can download from iTunes or Rhapsody, both those sites are good ones. [gitfiddleplayer]
I do both I buy CDs still I burn my own I down load my music all of it nothing like the real thing I guess but yeah I do all [sxrxnrr45601]
I still buy the music compact disc. I used to download music but it seemed whenever I did I would mess up my computer a bit. So I reformatted and haven't had trouble since. [mtdewgurl74]
Hello my friend gitfiddleplayer Ji, Well, truely speaking I never bought such items earlier as well, as I am not fascinated with new music system, which are cracking my ears. I go with old music and ols songs, may be taht we both have grown old. I never down-load anything, as music is always available in diufferent form all the time, I do not get my proper sleep because of much music available all round 24 hrs. may god bless you and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
I dont buy cd's for myself and Im not really fond of buying them. I just borrow them but there were times when Id go out on a limb and buy cd's of my fave bands. To tell you honestly if im going to buy a record, Id buy the cassette tapes cause its cheaper, have the same music in the cd and I have a player to play it with.ninja My Dad is the one who buys the cd's, well actually I buy it for him since I know his taste in music and whenever he knows Ill drop by the music store, he'll ask me to buy him a good record.cool As for me, I also get my music digitally,I actually dont buy but I just listen to a specific song online like in Youtube or Imeem. Id listen to it over and over again until I get tired of it and move on to the next song.^_^ [bjcyrix]
I still uy cd's. I have only downloaded a cd once on the internet but it can only be played on the computer. I don't have an ipod so I'm not that tchnologically advanced to do that stuff yet so I'll stick to my cd's. By the way we still have casettes too! [chapcity]
My baby is great I am truly blessed. He is very well behaved and is a laugh a minute. [chapcity]
i buy cd's-but i usually wait til they go on sale and i can pick up like 4 or 5 for $20.we have a place called strawberries here that has a discount bin with all kinds of good stuff.replaced most of my old sabbath albums that way. [scarlet_woman]
I love the $1.00 bin, I've found some good stuff in there. [gitfiddleplayer]
I agree, I seldom buy CDs anymore, I don't need the clutter. Music on the computer and Ipod is definitely the way to go. This is the green way to get new music. One thing that twists my knickers, is I have vinyl and I have tapes and now I am often buying the same music the 3rd time when I download. I know the artists deserve some money, but I think there should be away that we can credit for previously purchased music before we rebuy it. [Debs_place]
Hmmm...the last CD I bought for myself was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers...in 1994. Actually, that is wrong - I bought a Christmas CD three years ago because it had a rare song that I wanted and couldn't find anywhere to download. Most of it I don't even download unless I'm planning on making a CD for the car - with live streaming music like myplaylist.com I can listen to just about anything right on the computer. The good thing about it is I don't have to worry about scratched CD's anymore! [vera5d]
I'm with you on the last part. Skipping is for 5 year olds, not CD's. [gitfiddleplayer]
I don't buy cds anymore either. it's rare... the last one i bought i think was two years or more ago and it was only to support the band...but yeah, don't buy them anymore. i just download my music now. itunes and my ipod. thats all i need. I get new songs all the time and am always looking for more music. i've got 2100 songs on my ipod taking up 9gbs and i have a 30gb. i want to see if i can fill it up. i probably won't but i'm working on it. so no buying cds for me. [sameroad]
Very cool, I'm an iPoder too. [gitfiddleplayer]
I like the good old fashioned CD's. It is very hard to corrupt the data on a CD, so it is easy to reload it to an mp3/4 player etc as many times as is required as the 'downloaded' copies can become corrupted quite quickly, especially with more use etc. Having the CD's also means being able to have another excuse to get out of the house to go shopping instead of sitting in front of the computer ordering and paying for things online, though I suppose I could take my laptop to the local shopping centre and still buy the 'downloadables' that way. [newzealtralian]
That's cool, sometimes I can't get a certain song and I don't want to buy the whole CD for just one good cut. Your way works too. [gitfiddleplayer]
Well I have just entered the download era but I am not sure I will keep on with it. I wanted to burn a CD to take in the car from an album I downloaded on Amazon. Problem is it is protected and I can not do anything with it! I paid good money for the stupid thing and now I dont even know if I can put it on an mp3 player! Not a happy person here at all! [shewolf52002]
Rip it to your hard drive and then burn it, copywrited stuff is a pain but since you paid for it you should be able to use at your leisure. [gitfiddleplayer]
