Do You Play A Song That You Like Over And Over Again Until You Get Sick Of It

last Friday, one of my officemates heard the song i was playing in the computer and he noticed that it was playing over and over again. he asked why i was listening to just one song over and over again. i said because i like the song so much. another officemate said to him that i'm always like that when i like a particular song on a particular day or week. i was surprised that someone had noticed that of me. and then when he heard the lyrics of the song, he understood immediately why i was playing it over and over again. he knows my lovelife and he realized i could very well relate to the song. lol so that's me. whenever i tripped on a good song, i would download it and play it over and over again until i get sick of it. like what i'm doing now. i'm playing a particular song which i have been listening to for a couple of days now. i think the computer's already sick with it. lol what about you?

[question posted by secretbear]

responses and comments:

I usually play albums over and over again, in particular the Best of Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music I think my computer is sick of it and trys to regurgitate the cd! But now that I download the music onto Itunes it can't so I've tricked it and now it has no choice. Sometimes when I am down I will play the same song, like Madonna's Frozen, powerful lyrics which could have been written for Wolfie, Moby's Porcelain is another song that I can play over and over and over again! So I am with you on this one, I pay a lot of attention to the lyrics and read between the lines, they can be so powerful and profound. [wolfie34]
same with me also I also play the full album again and again which I like the most and never get bored out of it [dio123]

yes, specially when i need to learn that song. i am a musician and when i need to study a certain song you can hear that song all over the house. my wife is a professional singer but she is now a 24/7 hands on mom and a wonderful wife. because she is a singer she is good on picking up new songs so she is the one who leanrs the song first than me har har har. she is the one getting sick of it not me har har har [se7enthbird]
hi se7nthbird! wow. you and your wife are both musicians? nice. i'm sure there's an advantage for both of you there. happy [secretbear]

I will listen to songs that I really like for a few times in a row. Then I will play it alot for the next days - but not exclusivly. I do not want to get sick of a good song, so I try to save it a bit. I would rather make it, if possible - not all songs can reach this stage, part of my all time favorite topp 2000 songs tha I never tire of [teison2]
Sounds pretty much like me then. have a nice sunday :-) [teison2]

I don't like to play a song until I'm sick of it. Then I would be sick of a lot of songs and would have nothing to dance or sing to. I like a good rotation of my favorites. But to each their own. Take care [writersedge]
yeah. i agree. to each their own. thanks writersedge. happy [secretbear]

Same here. Whenever I hear a song I like very much, I sing it over and over again and still not get tired of it! Now, it is moonriver. I am starting to like the old songs sang by new singers. [everlasting]
moon river? i know that! its the favorite song of one of my professors back in college! happy [secretbear]

I think most of us do this kind of thing... at least the ones that really appreciate music. I sometime played 1 song for a whole week non-stop until i got sick of it... then i started inserting another 3-4 song along with ithappy And after that i just return to my list (but the new songs are included in the old list as well). [elitess]
i do that too! if i get tired of a song after hearing it a few days, i would go back to my playlist but the song would still be in it. happy [secretbear]

I only do that when i had to much to drink. Then I feel sorry for myself. I listen to the same song over and over. When I got divorced a long time ago, I went to a bar and played free bird from lynard skinnard over and over till people told me to cut it out. [missybear]
lol i don't know the song Free Bird but i would have understood why other people wanted you to cut it out. they probably couldn't relate with it. ^__~ [secretbear]

Mostly yes :D I play it non-stop and then I get sick of it.. Have a nice day.. [NrgDfenZ]
thanks for the response. happy [secretbear]

I can listen to a song over and over if I really like it. I would say the one I listened to the most was the very first song my daughter sang and it was recorded onto a cassette tape. She did several more after that and I need to see about getting them put onto CD now. Her songs though I never get tired of hearing her sing. [tyc415]
Yes she was a great singer as a little kid also but the first cassette she recorded she was 16 years old. She is grown now and still has a beautiful voice. [tyc415]

Yes but only cause it is a Kids song. My Grand daughters have their favorite cartoons - and those songs stick in my head even if they haven't watched them for awhile..something will make me think of it and I'll sing the silly little thing till I am yelling at myself to stop!! [coffeebreak]
lol its like having an LSS, the last song sydrome. you'd be singing a song you've heard last even if you don't like it. wink [secretbear]

when it comes to music, i dont get sick on it..hehe..i love to play it over and over again specially when i love the lyrics and i can relate to it. [redfujiapple]

hmm, not quite, but there are times that I played my favorites songs two to three times, when I really like and love the lyrics and kinda relate to it sometimes or usually I played the whole album or song collection, more than once for a few days. But it was kinda rare though, usually I just listen to it once so that I don't get tired of listening it. happy [kylie_quistis]
hi kylie! thanks for the response. happy [secretbear]

Interesting When I hear a song I might like, I don't mind it much. But when I play it again, and then again and again, yeah! But I'm always steering clear of replaying a song over and over again, I'm loosing the interest of it and it really gets sick... [zamorak]
we tend to get sick of something we encounter every now and then. happy [secretbear]

well, i always play a song over and over again which i like , and when i get sick of it, i will stop to play it...however, it is just temporary, because always i have long time no play this song, i will miss it, and play it again... [michelleliu]
me too! after not hearing it for a long time, i would want to hear it again even if i have got tired of it in the past. happy [secretbear]

You have created an interesting discussion. However great a song may be.Repeated listening do definitely make it stale.I am easily bored with listening the same number again and again. [balasri]
lol stale. now that's a new word to describe a song. [secretbear]

Actually i too do the same thing pay the song over and over again until I get sick and tired of it and don't feel like listeing to any more. once I listended to the same songs atleast 20 3- times and atlast my friend got fed up it and threw the cd awy. i was damn angry for i wanted to listen to it again and he was with me all this time and was fed up of it. [lovenluck]

My sister used to do it and it used to drive us crazy. She sings and sometimes she would sing just two lines of a song over and over again....because she liked....but we sure didn't like it (even when we liked the song...she would make us hate it with the constant singing)! [SViswan]

I do that occasionally! The last song listened to over and over was Anyway by Maritna McBride....I still love the song but have quit listening to it everyday....but for me it was an inspiration and actually the way I live my life....no matter who says what.....I do it anyway! [jillhill]

I have never in my life listened to a song at work. cry I grow tired of sounds very quickly, so there are not many that I could hear over and over. For me that would become distracting very soon. [drannhh]

Hello my friend secretbear Ji, It happens as our natural freequency synchronises with of song's freequency. People forget everything. Jet flying in city areas are banned to fly at low altitudes, if noise produced by jet, synchronises with any of building natural freequency, building will shatter and shiver. Whenever we listen music of our choice, some of our bidy moments are seen, including one starts singing. 'Synchronisation has been great phenamena in our daily life. Have a nice time. [chintoo07]

like me i love asong ilike playing it more and more but never get boared its name is naweeha its the best for me [candyshop2009]

Yep, I do it. And once it has been a favorite song, it will always be a favorite one which I never got tired of playing. :) [blogger_29]

yes, my Children plays music over and over again and its a head ache. lol. well if ever i need to learn a song i just listen to it with an earphone so i wont make people sick of the repeatition of the song. what song is that? can you share it with me? i want to get sick lol. happy lol [roniroxas]

That is exactly what i do, if i like a song i heard it till i don't like it anymore. Then i find another song and i do that again. And then i dont play them for a long time till i remember them and i play it till i get sick of it rasp [Jul14nch0]

I can play the same song over and over again but never seem to get sick of it . If I liked it years ago then I still like it today . I have songs that I listened to when I was a child over and over again and when I hear them today , I still enjoy listening to it . [samtaylorskykierajen]

I am also like that. I play my new favorite song over and over again to memorize it. I always have the lyric with me downloaded from internet or if I have no access with the internet I will type it as I listen to that song. [ladymingler]

I do the same thing. If I like a song somethimes I will play it over and over again myself. [Shaun72]

Being a songwriter/musician myself, I probably have a different take on this. I will listen to my own stuff over and over and over until I'm sure I have the mix and production of the Recording right. By then, yes, I'm even sick of my own music! Sometimes, I have to wait a few weeks to listen to it again with 'clean ears', and by then, I've put enough distance between myself and the music to make an informed decision. As for other artists, there have been some songs that I just could NOT get out of my system, for one reason or another.... at one point, when I was going through something really intense, that Nalick song 'Breathe' (or it might have been called 2am) was on repeat for days.....I still go 'back there' now, when I hear it ! [morninglory518]

Oh yes! This evening, I played one song about 8 times- then another 7 times. Mainly, I play them over and over so I can get the lyrics down, but sometimes the song is just so darn addicting that you can't help but listen to it over and over. I know that it annoys my friends, but frankly, we listen to all different types of music, and they do the same thing. [IrishRose23]

I do it too.I play it on and on and on and then when I get sick of it I just never play it again for months.lol [Daffodil20]

I remember when I was a professional musician working in a band, we used to play the same songs over and over night after night. Yet, I could still hear them come on the radio and enjoy them. But perhaps because I grew up practising piano day after day, playing the same tunes, I became immune to repetition.. [derek_a]

yes i do, but not the same way as you do. i just love to hear it played over the radio. i remember before there's a station in my country where they play the no 1 song of the week every hour. so i always stay on that station so i can listen to my favorite song. [laila675]

Hi secretbear! Yes, I do the same thing. When I really like a song I will plays it over and over until I get sick of it which can take a really long time. When I first heard Rhianna's Umbrella song I played to death! I just loved that song and I still do. And the video too. Now I love Ne-Yo's Closer~I can play it over and over and watch the video too! There are alot of songs that I get that way with. I don't care if it drives anyone else crazy I just love to do that! It takes me a long time to get sick of a song too! [Opal26]

yes , i agree very much to you . a song ,when you fist to hear , no matter how nice it is , if you hear over over , and last you have to get sick of it. this is why ppl fall love with somone, not this person not enough lovable, because sometime ,everyone will get tire of old things, and like new one. you maybe hate this ,but it is natruall. [cathy_human]

Hehe, I do this too, though not just one song. Usually it's like 4 to 5 songs that I play over and over. I don't usually get sick of them, but when I find a new song I like, I add it to my list of songs to play over and sometimes I kick of some that I'm over with. [mymelodake]

i've been known to do the same thing many times. i don't think it's a good idea for me beacause when i do this i'm usually down & i think it makes you feel worse in the long one. [ANTIQUELADY]

Yes, I do. Usually when I want to learn the song and the song give me some kind of 'feeling'. [winwin88]

Indeed.. I always play my favorite songs everyday for this month..then by next month I change another set of my favorite songs like this month would be metal songs..next month are fav reggae songs... :) [isyutsg69]

Yes!!! I'll play it until I get sick of it.. lol Recently, I've been listening to Garnet from Toki o Kakeru Shojo. I love it the first time I heard it 2 years ago. Recently, I feel like listening to it again and I keep playing it. I love the song. So sad and sweet.. [poohgal]

Yes, there are certain songs that I'll listen to over and over, because they were popular on the radio during a happier time in my life. [swerdna]

I have done that but I will not subject others to it. I will do it when I am alone or use headphones. Some pieces of music just move me so much I want to hear it again and again. Also, I am a dance teacher and choreographer, and so I will play a song that inspires me to choreograph, so listening to it, many times, will help me form a picture in my mind of what I want the dance to look like. [nanajanet]

My husband dose this same thing, I can and will replay the same song maybe twice, or three times. But that's it. My husband wil play a song for like a week untill he's completely sick of of it. It's a good thing we don't spen too much time around each other listening to music. "I'de go insane" [JPeralta]

I am very fond of music and stick to one song until and unless I have learnt it's lyrics by heart. I listen it continuosly for a week or two and then shift on to a new song, as they keep releasing every week. For example During the first weeks of August, I was fond of a song called "Bachna Ae Haseeno", and listened to it for a week or so. My ringtone was that song, my computer played that song when I logged in and my MP3 Player autostarted that song every now and then. Obviously my gadgets got bored of the song within a week just like me and I cleared it away and shifted to a new song. After this came a song called "Singh is King" which again took over my mind. Wherever there was "Bachna Ae Haseeno" few days before, now there was "Singh is King". It's so amazing that we become an insane fan of a song and think that we will listen to it for the rest of our lives, but that thought doesn't even last for a week. Nice and Sensible Topic. Cheers!lol AJ Rox. [ajrox1810]

I do too. There are a few songs that I could just play all day long, other people might be covering their ears but its music to me baby! I have certain play lists that are for certain moods and I can listen to them over and over. [gitfiddleplayer]

I love listening to the same song over and over but it is ony my ipod suffle, and well I leave that song for another time, I do not become quite sick. [ShellyB]

no what happens to me is i will like a song a lot then i will hear it all the time on tv or the radio because they play it nonstop then i hate the song.. [headbanger21]

A song is something that can relate to my feelings. It gives melody a reassuring sooth of my emotions. If I like one particular song, I usually keep it playing on and on and on...in my pc. And post it in my blog. And make an article of it. Download it. Put it in my phone, ipod, and mp4. Then worse, I email the link to my friends. LOL [sassyangelee]

I have a bad habit of doing the same! Sometimes I get hooked to a couple of songs at a time so I'll listen to both of them back to back. Right now I'm stuck on a song I heard for a promo for a television show, "Dexter" (on Showtime). It's only 56 seconds long, but oh so catchy! So after 10 or so minutes, I do switch to a new song. I gotta see if there's a longer version of the song... As for your song fitting your personal life, I've done the same. Even if the song doesn't directly relate, if it comes during a time and reminds me of a person or situation, then I may listen to it over and over. I have been better to quit before I get completely sick of them. However, I still overplay some songs and needed a break from them. [goodnightmoon]
Yah! I found the whole song: "Secret" by The Pierces. [goodnightmoon]

yeah, i WILL!!! i will repeat & repeat & repeat, until my sis was sicked abt it...hahhah, not me... [cottonm]

Hi. I am a tv fiend. But occasionally, I get in the mood to hear nothing but my music. And yes, I will play some parts or the whole song over and over until even I'm sick of it. That's why I try to restrict this pleasure to times when I am alone, and close neighbors gone. (smile) [ReoTwo]

I may play it more often then other songs but not exclusively, I used to do that when I was a kid, you had a 45 on the spindle and then lifted the arm away and the song would play forever. Not good for vinyl or the needle. [Debs_place]

well... i will... when i like the song very much, i will play it again n again.... i won't stop n won't feel bored on it too... i like to hear the song tat i like... =) [candysky]

I had a room mate like that... whenever she is feeling sad... she would play the same song over and over again... one time it was Mariah Carey's "I will make it through the Rain"... i got so fed up with it that i ended up not sleeping inside our room... or i turned on my TV too loud just so she will get the message to turn off the music... [aseretdd]

Hi secretbear, I am also like that and I don't care how many time I will play it and if the people around me is bored about it...LOL! Good thing before I have no friends who is against it..They love it too..hahaha SO, just enjoy your music..LOL!happyhappyhappy [checapricorn]

oh yes me too.. when there is a music i would get hook to i would play it over and over again till i get sick of it or the people around me gets sick of it! ha ha ha! [jazel_juan]

haha.. sAMe here, secret ^_^ I will also keep listening and listening to my favourite songs over and over again, but i won't do it to the extend til i get bored of it, because i dun wanna hate my favourite song due to over-listening.. lol =D IN the past b4 downloading of songs was popular on the internet, there used to be CDs right?? I will keep listening to just a particular song and the CD will always end up spoiled.. lol =D BUt now with the internet, i can listen to it as long as i want without having to worry that it will be spoil.. lol =D What song are u listening to now, secret?? NOw my current favourite song is by leona lewis, Better in time.. haha [kun2349]

Hey, what's the song?. Girl, you are inlove, indeed!!. im happy for you. I am too. But broken hearted as well. I plan to make a discussion about it, I want to share my happy and sad lovelife at present. Anyhow, we are the same. We have freedom to that, it made us happy, why not do it, and besides playing a song in the office relieve stress and make us inspired, diba???. Actually as I am replying to your discussion I am playing Say it again song, I don't know if you know it, but it is a new song now. But since the start of September I keep on playing If I'm not inlove with you by Kathy Tracolli. It really defines what I am feeling right now. When I am hearing that song, it makes me cry and happy. It made me look like a weirdo, but I really really like the song. The lyrics are so right in regards with my story (swak na swak ika nga). I am still not sick to that song. My officemate do like it also, they said they can relate to it so it is never a problem. [grecychunny26]

Oh yes, I do exactly the same. In fact more that you because I even end up downloading to my phone and using it as a ringtone. I once palyed a cd until it got scratches and cannot play any more lol! And when am in love, the world would know because of the songs i play and my face tells it all. when sad also you can tell from the kind of songs i will play but sometime my face wont show. [kwenge]

Am same like you, stick to the old song & play them thousand times, specially if am doing my house chore or in my front of computer i just listen to my favorite song. [Ohara_1983]

Hello secretbear, I don't play it like you do, but there are songs that I like and I want to hear it over and over again also. Maybe two or three times a day is good enough for me and then do it again tomorrow until you a new song will come out. You are right about relating to the lyric of the song. There are times you are in a situation and the song is just right. You have to play the sound and reminisce that situation over again. It makes you like to hear the song over and over again. Have a good listening. Regards. ninjaninjaninja [robert19ph]

I am guilty of the same thing, I just can't stop listening when I find some song that I really like. I remember recently I was listening "Invincible" by Muse more than few days in a row, over and over, and I didn't get sick of it. It really is a great song. [Natrak]

There are times when i am alone and I play a song that I like over and over again, not until I get totally sick of it, just until I feel like listening to a different song, which I may play over and over again, or which I may only listen to once before moving onto the next one. It really depends on my mood. [danishcanadian]

I LOVE music and when I find a song I like I do listen over and over. I remember in particular in the seventies when my sister and I fell in love with Another Auld Ang Syne by Dan Fogelberg. We both listened to it like crazy. I went out and bought the album and we kept replacing the phonograph needle on that cut over and over again. Finally my father put his foot down and was pretty sick of the song and made us stop listening to it. Recent favorites of mine are American Idiot and When I Come Around and a few other Green Day songs. I have listened to Face Down by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and It's An Arm Race by Fallout Boy over and over and I really love them. They make me angry in a really constructive way as they are both about subjects about which I am very sensitive. [kbkbooks]

Well, I think there are many of us who are like this. I know I have done this with many songs in my life, and then it gets to "If I hear that song again, I will Scream." I still to this day cannot listen to "Everything I Do" by Bryan Adams due to an Ex boyfriend of mine singing it so often in Karoake when we were together. So now I try not to overdue certain songs I really enjoy even though I find it easy to do if you let it. [KrauseHome]

i try not to, this way i wont get tired of it, it's bad enough having the radio stations doing it... [saraines]

yes i do that. if i like one song i played it again and again. until i memorized the lyrics. [mapuang]

I don't play a song over and over again till I get sick of it, but I do hear some songs on the radio that they play over and over again. One of them is I kissed a girl and I liked it. I don't know who sings it but it just drives me crazy when I hear it because I am so sick of hearing it. They seem to play it every hour on the radio and now when I hear it I change the station. I don't understand why they play some songs so much. It is like they don't have enough different songs to play. They just play the same 10 songs all day long, over and over again. And this has been going on for a long time now. I want to phone the station and complain about it but I was told it wouldn't make a difference if I did. They would still play the same songs over and over and over again. [chrislotz]

I think I tend to get bored with songs, but there are times I want to hear the same set over and over for a little while at least. [DaddyOfTheRose]

No, i usually play a cd from beginning to end. Coz i dont want to get sick of it. I had a friend that always did that and it irritated me. One day he play one song over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over ALL DAY LONG. When he finally shut it off i jumped up and said "Oh no play it again!" He just looked at me as if i had lose my mind. And i probably did about 300 replays ago. Since i got XMradio i usually just listen to that. [jdyrj777]

Thank God I am not alone.I am forever doing this.I download the song and keep playing it over and over again everyone at home keep making fun of me.I play it until I get sick of it.They some songs that I don't get sick of too.I am so glad there are people like me.blinkwink [biggerb]

I have many songs that I listen to over and over, but I don't get bored with them easily. I have them all on my mp3 and select the random mode so that I never know which song I will get next. [newzealtralian]

Good thing for me i have a lot of good songs that I usually sing over and over again. So when i get tired of one, I still a lot in line. lol I love singing. Although the song doesn't really like me. [izathewzia]

yeah the me too...if i love something i wanted to use it over and over until i get sick and tired of it and then put it aside for a while and use it agaiun when i feel like using it.just a typical person. [johndur]

My daughter is like you.She loves music very much.Everytime she likes a certain song she would keep on playing it.The thing is because i always heard of it, i could also memorize the songhappy. [msedge]

Hello secretbear, I love to do that! I always listen to my favorite song over and over again until I get sick of listening to the intro of the song! The more I do it, the more I feel the song is so much close to my real life like it is written especially for melol I love to mix up a few lyrics of different songs and create a new lyric that really means so much to me (oh, my....very emotional) and then send it to my husband. He thinks I am such an emotional freak! [gr8life]

Well, usually if it's a song I really really like, I do play it over and over again, but not the whole day, and neither would it be at work as well.. It would be played when I'm home or when I'm driving.. And I'll just be listening to it. I'll make sure that I'm alone for me to do so. I will not torture other people just because I really like a song.. When I was younger, yes, I did just listen to a song over again and again until I get sick of it... and mind you, it takes at least a few days in order for me to get sick of the song.. LOL.. I think the longest it took me was a month.. and if I could remember what song it was I'll tell you.. and I'll prolly die laughing at my craziness when I was young.. Have a great Christmas!! Happy Holidays! Take care! [quarvalsharess]

Yes, I am this type of person. If I like a song very much, I will keep on listening to it all the time. I love China [youless]

hi, yeah i do..... actually i am a heavy metal kind a fan.. often when get to listen to a any good guitar solo...i would keep on listening to it till i litrelly memorise it... not only that i start playing that particular song in my mind all day long... i have this strange habit of producin guitar sounds thru u mouth which i do it pretty well... my friends always raise their eyebrows whenever they came across me ..but thats me i do what i feel like doing.. bye.. merry christmas.. [srik11]

yes i am...i like to play it over n over again..listening to it until i really hate that song after some times.... [zahirahana]

OH YES! It has happened, when a song gets in your head and you just can't seem to get enough of it, and you feel this urge to listen to it over and over again, then finally one day your brain seems to feel sick of it and it's lost all it's charm. It's happened to me a lot of times, and sometimes I'll get sick of the song for a few days but I'm always thinking of it and a few weeks later I'm listening to it again non-stop. There's also the problem with the song you hate that for some reason keeps playing in your head, you know... that catchy tune that for some reason you find yourself singing but you wish you'd stop! [SKLC_PT]

Well, Ive never really listend to the same song over and over again unless Im trying to learn the song. Songs that I like, I listen to them once or twice and then maybe some other time, but never continuously. Guess you are over emotional and relate to a song very much. Do you play it loud enough for others to listen and comment. Your friends are good for it becomes quite boring for others to keep listening to the same song repetedly. Enjoy. [ketybhagat]

Interesting post secret bear. Well I am too pretty much like you specially when i get tired of listening old songs and find a newer song. If I get a single nice song, then I play it number of times on and on. There was a song, a native song, which I listened on and on for about three months. At that time I didnt have a CD player and rather i had a tap. Immediately after the song finishes, I rewinded it and played again and again. But when I get a whole new album, I dont do like that. I listen to all the songs then. Only few songs I repeat and repeat. [nzalheart]

What was the song ? I dont play the songs i like over and over agian, but my brother used to do that with songs. and my hubby plays teh same few songs over and over again when he's allowed to have controll over the music on the pc. and it drives me batty. . If i like a song i'll play it a few times in a day, but not over and over again. its too much for me. [Sissygrl]

yes i do that all the time them soon enough i just stop listening to it [lalalaleasa]
