Do You Still Burn Cds

I am sitting here currently downloading 32 songs to burn to a disc and while I am waiting I was thinking....does anyone actually do that anymore? Or am I alone in this old venture? Do you still burn music to cd's? I know alot of people have done away with CD's with the great invention of the MP3 player or Ipod and we have those in the house, each of us has one so there are 5 of them floating around in various rooms right now....2 of my kids are actually using theirs as I type but I am downloading songs for the kids to listen to when they are going to sleep or whatever. As well as some other Misc kid songs that I can find. I have alot of the Disney soundtracks ready to burn as well so by the time I am done I should have like 4 or 5 to burn for them. How often to you burn cd's if you still do?!? Why do you do it still? Do you have an ipod or mp3 player?

I used to burn c.d.'s but the program I used was proven to easily put spyware on the computer, so we stopped using it where I used to live. Then when I moved in with my fiance we don't have a c.d. burner but had the software, still we got rid of it for the same reason. In any case, I did have a MP3 player at one time, but rather just buy the c.d. or have someone else burn it for us. [SomeCowgirl]
Yeah I hate the spyware crap! It drives me nuts!! There were a few programs I used to use that I liked very much...except for the spyware aspects of it. [callahanb78]

I use CD's only as a way to back up drivers, games and important files. I don't use CD's for burning music on. I have a 2 GB mp3 player and that's more than enough for my music satisfaction. CD's are more expensive on the long run and they aren't too portable. [diamania]
We use our MP3 players alot more than we do cd's. I think the only reason I am doing the cd this time is because then all the kids can listen to it at the same time and together. [callahanb78]

I burn cd's very rarely. The last time I did it was because I wanted to share my music with someone else. It's just not needed anymore. CD's scratch if you're unlucky (or not carefull with them) and you can store a lot more on any MP3 player which also means you don't need a player to listen to it as well. When I'm on my computer I just listen to my music on my computer itself, so it doesn't require me to have CD's then as well. I guess it's just not that needed anymore. [Sador88]
May I ask why you still burn them? Sounds like you agree with me that the disadvantages outweight the few advantages it has. Only for in the car CD's might just be better than mp3 players because it's not that smart to use that while driving, but otherwise... [Sador88]

My husband and I have only 1 ipod for the 2 of us. That means only one of us can use it at a time! It makes it hard when we are in different places and we both want to use it. But we manage - it isnt worth the money to buy a new one! I have copied several of my CD's onto other disc's. I leave them in my car. I dont want to leave the orginals there because they too often get scratched or misplaced. This way, I can always make another copy for myself if I need to! So far, this the best option for me and my husband without spending a lot of money! So, no, you are not alone in burning CD's. I dont do it often, but I still do sometimes! [derlilaStern]

I'm a dinosaur & YES I still burn CDs. I have an iPod but I feel safer with a CD. What if my iPod & my computer crash on the same day & I lose my music??? Probably ain't gonna happen, but it could. My CD is my back up for my music. A lot of times while on myLot, I have my my CD in my drive & music playing in the background!!! [LadyMarissa]

if you download a song at 5mb ,and cd have 700mb.you should able to download more than 32 song right [makeupartisteileen]
umm Yeah.... I am just doing 32 because those are the only songs I want on that particular cd... [callahanb78]

No, I don't burn cds anymore. It's been a while I've burned cds. Nowadays, I just use my iPod. That's how I listen to music, when I'm not at my computer. [dodo19]

Hello, I still burn cds probably a few times a month. I do it because I like to listen to music and its easier to compile my own cd with all the songs I want instead of buying a cd and only having one or two songs that i really like to listen to. I also have an ipod but I actually dont use it all that much anymore I use a discman or play the songs while I am playing games on the computer. [mnk202]

Yes, I still burn Cd's not as much as I used to though. When I first got my new computer last year, I think I spend days burning CD's. After while like a lot of things the excitement of being able to do this wore off. Now I just download songs every once in a while, so I can listen to them on my CD player in the car or living room. [sweetashoney]
I used to make cds ALL the time when it first came out. I had TONS of cds around and always had plently available just in case. [callahanb78]

I've wanted to burn CD's for quite some time now but I can't because my CD Drive doesn't want to burn CD's anymore. It worked for awhile but it hasn't worked for a few years now. It will play CD's and play DVD's but for the life of me I can't burn CD's anymore and I've got plenty of music I'd like to burn to CD's too! [highflyingxangel]
I still do and will always use cd's. Cheaper than mp3s and help me back up my computer. Even videos can be put on cs. Everything can be done with them :) [MichealMyers1]

Yes, I still burn CD's. I will admit not as often as I used to since I got an ipod. It nice when I have company to be able to put CD's on that contains all the music we love instead of listening through the computer. My computer is in the bedroom and my speakers aren't that great so for company I use my cd player with burnt CD's. Have a great day and happy mylotting. [Oceanblueeyes]

YES! Usually I do it to put them in my car. I have one of those hook up things for my iPod but dont think its that safe for me to be playing with my iPod during driving, I think im a bit safer just hitting the next button on the stereo. [lenamariee]

Yes, I do.. Typically, i do this for our car.. i burn my favorite songs to CD and play it on our car.. good thing, my siblings and i have the same taste when it comes to music.. i usually burn any genre of music such as R&B, acoustic, chillout/house music, pop rock and some alternative.. recently, i burned 35 songs in one CD and that was a mixture of R&B and some alternative music.. [gracie04]

No, I don't have a ipod or a mp3 player. Yes, I do still burn CD's. I burn music to listen to in the car, etc.. burning music is much cheaper than buying the whole cd. Especially when alot of times there are only a few select songs on a CD that are any good anyhow. [SuzyQ12]

I haven't burned a cd in like a year! Which is crazy because I use to burn them all of the time. I don't really know why I stopped. The biggest reason was probably because I quit downloading music online. Now I use a site called www.playlist.com . You can play the songs you want to hear and not have to worry about downloads. You can't of course use them to make cds though. I mostly just listen to the radio when I'm in the car. Or I buy cds once in a while. If I'm going to the gym, I use my Ipod. [Jennlk84]
I used to burn them alot too and then stopped as well for a while. I saw them in the store not too long ago and picked some up. I had to get the colored ones..lol of course. I usually listen to the radio in the car as well. I like having different people, songs and beats to listen to. [callahanb78]

i still burn cds for back up i have an External Hard Drive to back up my music too i have an ipod i f you wanna give your friends music its easier to give your friends a cd its easier than giving them a Flash Drive [babymrbob]

*Raises hand* I still download and burn CD's as all I have is a CD player. I hate buying new things and spending money. I will probably break down at some point and get a MP3 player thou. My son has one and loves it. It would be nice to have for when I go walking or working outside. To answer I burn CD's probably about 1 time every 2 months. [Ithink]

I still burn CDs to take the music off my computer that is taking up space...right now, I have to get a whole stack of blank CDs now to get all this stuff off my computer but I just don't have time. I don't really mess with CDs though. My iPod is my life right now... [ScarletAlston]

Hi callahanb78, I would love to burn cd's but don't know how. Because, I just got a computer with a burner last Christmas. Have a wonderful evening Snowqueen [snowqueen2008]

My latest car radio has a USB port in it: I can just save mpeg files on a flash drive, and pop them in the car radio. That was pretty much the last reason I had before to burn music on CDs (to be able to play them in the car), so I guess that's pretty much that. The radio also allows you to plug in an ipod/mp3 player, but I don't have any of that. [seacaucus4]
I wish my car had that feature. Maybe I will look for that in the next car purchase we make. I nkow I have friends who have cars with the USB ports in them and use them very often. they seem like a really good invention. [callahanb78]

i dont really burn cd's anymore.. i usually just burn dvd's [Katie3995]

Burning CD's is still very popular. But since mp3 became the next choice. You can still burn them into a cd-r and one good thing is that more songs can be added into it. And nowadays there are lots of CD players that supports MP3 cd playback. But If I were you, it'll be better to have an flash based portable music player. Like sony MP3 Walkmans or iPods [kodigo]

well your not alone in this. base on my observation theres still lots of using cds. i own a net cafe and of course im also burn some cd. so we have lots of customer who are buying cd's. [mapuang]

Yes, i do! It's my way of preserving music albums which i really like. I want it burned on a CD on cd format because the music is a lot better. I don't know but i feel comfortable listening to them on a cd especially the one i treat as a masterpiece. lol! You know, i love metal music and i don't get much of it here in our place so the nearest i can get to own one is to download them then burn them on a cd. I don't have an mp3 player or an ipod but i can play music on my phone. [modstar]

i still don't know how to burn cd's. i would like to burn cd. and to copy videos from youtube to a cd. do you know how to do that for free [hotsummer]

I have mp3 and mp4 hanging out somewhere in my room i always use my mp4 player as i go to work or as i rode to the road.ehehe!!! I do still burn some CDs especially if it game or software that i have downloaded from the net. I don't want my computer to be overloaded of softwares and songs and games. I do have some removable Storage where i can store those items but i really like saving those in the CDs with the design of my choice. I have different kinds of designs of CDs. I have cartoons and some Computer Games characters. And i really enjoy the designs. [pitstryke]

I do! Because an iPod isn't the greatest invention ever, it doesn't allow for the creation of folders. My old Sony mp3 players allows you to use folders if they are burned onto the CD. So I still read all of my audiobooks on mp3 CD. I buy the CD set, then copy them and burn it all to one mp3 CD so that I don't have to change CDs while I'm at work. My car also takes mp3 CDs so I'll burn stuff to listen to then too. But I generally just listen while I'm parked at school doing my homework in the car. [Pigglies]

I used to burn CD's. That's what my brother does back home, his business. But, I do not burn CD's anymore. My husband is into CD and DVD business so I can listen to any music that I want, I would just ask him that I want this CD. Sometimes, he would go online to get me my favorite artist. happy [hornetlover]

Yes, we still burn CDs, I know there are already a lot of other ways to save and listen to songs but it so happens that our stereo in the car plays CDs. We haven't figured out how to connect my husband's ipod to the car stereo so that we can play his songs in the car. We are slowly working on it though. hehehe One more thing is that they say that CDs can't catch any virus so I guess important songs or files are better backed up in CDs. [silverglint]

Yes, I still burn CD's for listening the music. I Burn the C.D's thru Nero updated version. I like music very much, i also have IPOD and MP3 mobiles but CD give us sound quality and good system to hear with family. I burn cd's of MP3 wherr songs downloads around 100 to 130 but i not getting good quality, so i prefer to download only 16 songs to get good quality and good sound. I also downloads games to install in computers. I also burn cd's for Photos and family movies etc to download other computer or mobile. So burning cd's is not old but always creat new things to add some new things for us. Happy Mylotting. [rakeshlalwani]

My phone can save songs and I have all my favorite songs in it but I still want to burn it on cd's so I can listen to it while I'm at home cleaning.I put it on the cd player and play it as loud as I want it.It's more fun to listen to cd's that you have burned yourself. [angel_rain]

I still burn CDs but very rarely and I prefer to buy the actual original albums if I have the money - I like the supporting the artists I love. Also, sometimes I just prefer to have the original. Seems something that a fan would do rather than someone who is ripping off someone else who worked hard to make something wonderful. I have a lot of burnt discs {admittedly} but I wish a lot of them weren't. Most of them are mixed anyway. [NollatheDaisy]

I always burns cd's, because it is important to keep the data or the other files. I do that every three moth because my computer just can keep 20Gb. It was a difficult way to choose important data that will be kept in a cd. I had mp3 player, but i prefer hear music at my computer and my music room. I use my mp3 player rarely. [jimbo88]

I am still doing it! I am collecting songs of my favorite artist from their albums because my MP4 is only 1gb. I love music and music is my life so I must have my favorite song with me. What if my MP4 became defective, I will have no other sources if I will not burn songs to cd. [grecychunny26]

I have to burn CD's sometimes. One of my friends doesn't have computer at his place. He never thought that it will be useful and so never purchased so whenever he want's to watch some movie or listen to some song he approaches me with some blank CD's and asks me to burn those content in that CD's so that he can watch it using his home theater system. [rakesh284]

yea ,iburn cds now tooo.sometimes store the data in cds inside my pc.sometimes i burn the cds!!! [hotman19902009]

I used to burn CD's ALL the time, even though I had them on my ipod, I commuted to school an hour and a half each way 5 days a week and I had no way to listen to my ipod in the car, so I'd burn CD's of all my music. Since I got my little iTrip ipod player for my car, I just slap together a playlist and listen to that. It's so much easier and I can make it as long as I want and continue listening to it on my ipod player at work. [willowgirl1084]

yes i do burn them rarely .. but i do use dvd's because they are very good for backing up the old songs that you like (provided you keep them safe) .. so do use ipod nano but for backing up .. yes i use the dvd's [brucekaushik]

I still burn cd and I did it quite often. I prefer to play the cd in car. I think it's a convenient way. I do own mp3 and I use it when I'm on the go. So, the music burn in the cd is for the use in car [leen_zhihai]

i still do burn music to cds, probably like twice a year ehehe. i do have an ipod but i still would like to keep all of the mp3s or songs that i have as a backup in a cd. blink [kevsgirlalways]

with new songs coming up everyday, i think i would love to get empty CDs and burn them, its been a long time i have dont that though and most of the songs i havwe on the CDs are outdatesd, thanks for reminding me and i thinki i will have to buy more CD's and burn my favourite rap, hiphop and african musics [tundeemma]

Hello callahanb78!!! Why do you think you are along doing that stuff. I still do that thing. I may use dvd or cd both. The datas, tracks on mp3 player are not fixed. When we need the new songs, we delete the existing songs if the space is not enough. As I am too much towards listening music, I keep on changing the songs in the mp3. The memory in my computer is also almost full. That's why I prefer the CD's. They are cheaper and the best for the backup. Pen drives are only for transferring data from one computer to the another. They cannot be the good media for the permanent storage. CD's and DVD's are the best medium for permanent storage. It is compulsory to me that I should have the writable CD/DVD drives so that I can burn lot of stuffs, not only music but many other necessary backups, that may be need any time. And it is very much comfortable, though sometimes I may feel too much lazy to burn them lol.... I still have lot of things pending to be burn, but feeling to much lazy to do them. That's why my harddisk is getting almost full... You reminded me of my pending job, thanks for creating this thread.... happy mylotting... [nzalheart]

In the past, I burn CD's every week for new songs I downloaded. But now that I have my trusty Ipod, I don't burn music CD's anymore. I just update my Ipod with the new songs I downloaded. Nowadays, I just burn CD's for my pictures for back-up. That is the only reason I burn CD's in the present. [zzyw87]

I want an mp3 player the prices have gone down on those. My grandkids have them. I burn a cd every now and then but not often. I love music of all kinds. [sunshinegirl1]

i still burn cds. i burn back up files in case i format my pc or my laptop. i used to burn songs to cd but not anymore. we use mp3 players now. but we still got burnt audio cds here and were still using it up until now. we still listen to it sometimes. [petuchini36]

i used to burn CD's till a few years back, then i started to listen to songs on my MP3 or on my laptop. my mom still uses CD's for pictures, incase my age old computer dies, so she has all her pics safe. she does use a USB for her songs though and a docking station for those songs. [prathna]

well iv only burned cds onece for a person they wanted it i donwlouded some song from youtube then used convertdirect.com to convet them in to mp3 then used cd burner xp and put them on to a cd it was very easy and convertdirectc.com was a very good wesbite i highly reccommend it and cd burner was very simple drag and drop software and i was done [shahzadh]

I have both an iPod and a mp3 player, but I still sometimes burn audio CDs. CDs are great for at-home-but-not-on-the-computer music. I mostly only use the iPod or mp3 player if I'm on the go or exercising (outside or on the treadmill). But if I'm at home, in the bedroom or kitchen, and want some music, then I play a CD. It's easier, and doesn't waste batteries. Plus, I don't always like listening through headphones; maybe I'm a bit paranoid but I know headphones aren't good for ear drums and I prefer not to be deaf by the time I'm 60. However, I don't like to waste CDs so most likely I will completely stop burning CDs once I run out. They take up a lot of room and at some point will be unusable and will end up in a landfill... Who wants that? [goodnightmoon]

I do still burn alot of CDs. I burn about one a week usually. I have an iPod with all my music on it as well, but my stereo in my car doesn't have the AUX input so I dont listen to it in my car. I love burning CDs. It lets you download all the good hot new music and listen to it rather than having to buy the whole CD! ITS awesome. I love it! [nrn2003]

What you are doing is the best thing to preserve all the music you carry for the IPods and on the computers. Eventually the IPod will bust and the computer will have the hard drive fail. You are not out of date in doing so because people use removable hard drives or mini usb bus drives to maintain files, pictures and music. Great work! [libby2009]

I still burn CD's to put in my car for when I'm on my weekly long drive to my girlfriends house. I can usually fit about 20 - 25 songs on a CD. Unfortunately, I can only use a CD-R because a CD-RW seems to ruin my cars CD player. Kind of weird if you ask me. There is a plug to stick an MP3 player into, but I rarely use it. I find CDs to be much more convenient. [Yiazmat]
What's the difference between a CD-R and a CD-RW? [MsTickle]

Yes I still burn songs to CD. This is for my backup purpose and easier to reference when there is a need. Even MP3s these days have large capacity for thousands of songs or even more, the songs stored in the player is only for listening and could be lost if we accidentally delete it and does not have a backup. [naka75]
Sorry I mean MP3 players have large capacities. [naka75]

I still burn CD's. I had a MP3 player but it died in less then a week. I might buy another one later but I still like listing and burning CDs still myself. [Shaun72]

I do occasionally burn cds, but not very often. I don't listen to them as much as I used to, so that's why I don't burn them as much. I am so impatient when waiting for songs to download. I would have to say that I probably burn cds about once or twice every two or three months. I usually listen to the radio or a cheap $20 mp3 player. [cortney09]

I burn CD and DVDS. i dont like leaving anything on the computer. I save everything to CDs not just music. [jdyrj777]

I sometimes still have to burn CD's to store pictures on but I really prefer DVD's instead. [K46620]

I do for my car because I don't have the latest stuff to hook my little mp3 player to my car one day I will get all that in order and organize my music though. It's way nicer having everything on your computer and just transferring it from one place to another without having to actually store a lot of cds. Then there's the whole benefit of buying just the songs you like whenevr you want them...I love the new way of doing it. it makes cds seem so old! I remember when they were the coolest thing to have haha. But I will still keep all of mine until I have money to update my library. [csrobins]

Aww... I don't burn CD's anymore since the advent of mp3 players. Here in the Philippines, back then in 2000 up until 2006 Music CDs were a big hit! But until recently MP3 players have started to show in the market like mushrooms, and also cellphones today include the ability to store mp3s and play them back. [jerelmeow]

I'm not very knowledgeable in this area. What is the difference between an MP3 player and an iPod? How do you get the music onto your MP3 player, I thought you converted the music on CDs to special types of file on your computer then onto your player. This way, you always have a copy in case you loose something. It's like copying your CD so you can keep the original. Can someone take pity on an old fossil and explain it all to me. I have 2 of those players and I've tried to convert some of my CDs over but I was unable to do it. I was using a program called Audio Grabber. Any help or explaination would be great.happy [MsTickle]

Yes, I do still burn CD's. I burn them for myself and my family and friends. I don't have a MP3 player or a IPod yet. I am thinking of getting a MP3 player though I checked them out and I like that they hold so many songs and that I don't have to worry about scratched disk not playing and so on. But for now.. I am still burning the CD's. [mtdewgurl74]

No, I don't do that anymore. I usually just download MP3 and put it in my MP3 player. When I'm out I use to listen to it. It's very convenient using MP3 compared to CDs because It's the size is small. It can easily fit in your pocket, while CDs are to big to fit in your pocket. Also the CDs might get scratched or damage making the sounds distorted or something like that. We I'm at home I use my computer to listen to music. I just plug the speaker at our component and it's all set. We rarely use CDs to listen to music. [AltheGreat2430]

I burn cds once in awhile for myself or for my mom.I do have 2 ipods and I use my ipods more than I use the cds.happyhappy [carebears]

I used to burn cds when i was in college. Now i do't burn cds as i have the pen drive with me.I have to just plug it in a usb connection and i can transfer all my files. If i need to give files to my friends then i will consider burning it on a cd.In my uncles place recently i burned a set of photos to see in a dvd player. But it never worked because the player took time to read the photos.sadsad [vicky30]

Yes i do still burn cds almost all of my cds are burnt.I burn them and then either give the originals to friends or sell then at yard sales. We have two mp3players and my kids barley use them [corona1234]
