With the onset of mp3s and iPods, do you still listen to a radio station?
With the new gadgets, we now have the freedom to choose what music we want to hear and how and when to hear it instead of requesting for it from the DJ and waiting for it to be played.
Are radio stations still relevant in today's generation?

responses and comments:
ya I listen to radio station on my mobile during travel to my office?! how about you?? [blackhole]
I am still loyal to my radio station and believe that they still hold purpose with today's generation. The new "me" generation still has to be connected to the rest of the world. One day radio stations may lose popularity but I can never see us being without some sort of radio broadcasting. [granite_butterfly]
I guess radio stations are still a way to connect to the rest of the world. It let's us know things in out society and in our in environment. Radio stations are not just music and ads. It reflect the society as a whole. Have a nice day!happy [richiem]
I like listening to my local fm station. It is in someway or other pretty informative too. It forcast the weather, inform about the traffic condition, and which is the most helpful one.. [chirantani]
There are really a lot of information that we can get from radio stations just like from televisions. Today, even FM stations have news and other informational programs. I believe radio stations are still important in our everyday life. Have a nice day!happy [richiem]
no. i hate DJ'sglare they talk a lot and i cannot enjoy my music... i just downloaded all the song that i love to hear and saved it to my computer..wink [hornetlover]
I also download songs that I would love to hear. But there are times when I want to hear other songs but cannot decide what songs I would download, I would just listen to the radio to have an idea. Have a nice day!happy [richiem]
I still do listen to radio stations specially in the morning when I want to listen to fresh news. I also listen in the night and make it sure it is in a Christian station so I could hear some inspiring messages to uplift my spirit and to enrich my mind with wisdom from biblical thoughts shared in the radio station of my choice. I believe radio stations are still relevant despite the new gadgets that could in a way replace the radio stations in the ear of the younger generation. But for me, some radio stations do have some relevance and I cannot just set them aside. [salonga]
I am only using my cellphone's FM radio ability and it doesn't have AM stations. I can't find FM stations with those inspiring messages. I guess it is because we only have few stations here. And I can't access all of them. Have a nice day!happy [richiem]
Actually, yes. I still listen to the radio. My cellphone unit has a built-in radio and sometimes I listen to it before I got to sleep, while I'm reading. I like listening to stations that usually have segments and they tackle different issues. The one I always listen to has 2 hosts, a man and a woman and it's really funny when they start arguing a la 'he said, she said' style especially when it's about different relationship issues. lol [crazyoverpurple]
I also listen to the radio thru my cell phone. I listen to it when I am at work and doing something in the computer. I usually like the jokes part. Even though some of them are corny, I can still laugh at them in my mind. Have a nice day!happy [richiem]
Yeah, i do still listen to radio rather than Mp3s because mp3 is just too boring.. With so many songs inside and if all are your favourite, then how long it's gonna take u b4 u can get to listen to all?? But radio is different, because it has got the classics songs too, whereby it's hard to find, plus, there are occasional breaks whereby the DJs will joke around to relieve the tension ^_^ [kun2349]
It's really hard to listen to all the music in mp3s especially when there are some 1000 songs in it. And you have to take time arranging the songs and choose the one you want to listen to. And it is very hard to choose. With radios, if you don't like the song, you change the station. Have a nice day!happy [richiem]
yes ,i still listen to a radio station, every day do .from the station i can get the information about the stock market and some times i also listen to the music .certainly i choose some music such as light music . [seanzang]
I didn't listen to radio stations for information about the stock market. I don't think we have a radio station like that here in our country. You should be a business man then. There are radio stations which are theme-specific, for example they only play mellow music. It should be good for you. Have a nice day!happy [richiem]
I choose not to listen to the radio right now. For me, nowadays is just saturated with show biz and corporate sponsorship. The worst part is if the artist has more money to shell out then he or she gets the more airplay even if the music is shayt. No wonder why the music is slowly depreciating and showbiz is trying and slowly creeping up to it. True artists with passion for music is endangered because of this capitalist who just tries to capitalize throughout almost everything that they can grab. They don't care about the result and the effect. Whether its shallow. They just want to simply make money. This is why I don't listen to radio anymore. Radio music is crap, they dictate you on what to listen Besides, I have my huge collection of cds and I'm still counting. Mp3's are fine but they're just sampler for me. I am my own radio station. [mchavez11]
good discussion!!!! well... for me, i have never listened to a radio station for a very long time already... to me, they are rather....annoying... and also, with so many advertisments, it is really...confusing, in a sense... but my mother listens to them... and she really like them as they fill up her time with entertaining music from the past and information with from around the world in the news [raclie]
I don't have those gadgets, but I do listen to a radio station over the internet sometimes, and I listen to several digital audio broadcast stations. I don't listen to many music stations, because I use the radio to listen mainly to the news, documentaries, topical discussions, drama and comedy. If I want to hear music, I will choose a station which only plays the sort of music I want to hear. [paid2write]
There is a lot more on the radio than just music. I listen to the radio to help keep track of the weather and local events. I like to listen to talk radio too. There are a lot of information on the radio. I also like to listen to some of the religious radio stations as well. So you see there is more to the radio than just misuic. [deebomb]
I know with all the new inventions they radio is becoming obsolete but I personally do not believe in MP3 Players and ipods and I think they are a waste of money,I much rather listen to the radio or a c.d. and I think my fiance agree with me but I am not completely sure, and whenever we go out somewhere we always have the radio on,and it is always on one of our favorite country stations. [hellcowboy]
The only place I ever really listened to the radio was in my car when driving to work or meetings. Now that I don't actually own a car I have no exposure to the radio at all. It is far too easy these days to download and create your own playlists rather than listen to random radio songs. What is interesting though is that internet radio for example is becoming far more personalized so at least radio is trying to keep as current and advanced as possible. I think it will be around for a long time yet..... [James72]
Well, I'm an insomniac, so the radio is really important to me because I plug it into my ear at night and love listening to the talkback and the quiz shows. I don't like music on the radio though, and I have an iPod for taking on my walks - but I love nighttime radio! [guybrush]
yes we still listen. mainly we listen to FM radio station. they are quite entertaining. they also do not require very expensive Gizmos. so we still listen to it. [subha12]
sad to say but im not listening to a radio anymore, coz i'm just watching mtv or listening to my mp3's. yeah i remember when i was still on college & working at mister donut, i'm always calling to the radio station, greet my friends & requesting a song. but now i'm not doing it anymore hehehe.. [jinxky]
i do still listen to the rdio.radio may not be relevant in today's generation but it's relevant in mine. to each his own . [ANTIQUELADY]
i remember that to. things sure change over the years. [ANTIQUELADY]
Yes I do still listen to a radio station, not very often mind but occasionally. I have my favourite station and I listen to it occasionally when I am on the computer. [gemini_rose]
I ebjoy alot of talk radio so yes I still do listen to the radio in the car. It is difficult to get good reception inside my condo so usually the tv is going(mostly news) even though I might not be watching. [muscles4me]
I will listen it if I am in a friend's car, but my husband has several radio plays that he puts on his car mp3 player and we will listen to them. At home, I usually listen to the music from Youtube or the ones I put on mp3 or I will listen to an internet radio station. Usually we watch Tv. So they really are not relevant unless you do not have a car mp3 player, computer, or the internet. Usually you can chose what you want to listen to. [suspenseful]
We still listen to the radio especially in the car. We alternate between our MP3player and the radio at night though. We have something on all night when sleeping. [ycanteye]
I've never been a big fan of radio stations. You can't control the music they play, they have a lot of advertisements that doesn't even play to your senses, the DJ talks too much! There are a lot of things he/she says that I don't even care. I just want music. I used to listened to radio stations before, when I was still in grade school. Then I discovered casette tapes! hehehe.lol I've never turned back to Radios ever again. Then there were CDs, then music files in SD cards that you can play in your computer, mp3 player or even just a cellphone. I don't think I'll listen to radios anymore. I don't even have a radio anymore.doh [swirlz]
I still listen to radio station because there are Worldwide events happening that I am interested in. Radio Station to me is not only about music but News Items and Sports so you see it is essential to still have radio stations. At least to me. Kerry [kerriannc]
hi. i havent listened to a radio station in my room. i dont even have a radio here...except the one in my cellphone. i just use my yahoo messenger music launchcast or listen to the songs i have downloaded. happy mylotting... [shiloh_222]
Sure I do... like now! I prefer to listen to radio stations in fact unless I feel like listening to some particular songs. This is simply because the radio stations provide access to an unimaginably huge juke box of songs! w00t lol [lordwarwizard]
I do but only during weekend! It's not often though! Also when we are riding, we don't use CD in the car,we only turn on to our favorite station!happyhappyhappy [checapricorn]
yes, I do listen to the radio, even in the truck. We have all the other gaggets that you mentioned. But there is nothing to me like a good old fashion radio. It plays cd's and I have one that still plays tapes. I have a few around the house and in the motorhome for out listening pleasure. I even have one on the back porch for when we are outside with family or if I'm alone and want to listen to music sitting out there or laying back relaxing. [moondancer]
I listen to online radio quite a bit. I listen to FM when we drive to certain work spots - local FM stations that are immensely popular and have 100s of youngsters than call up, request songs and take part in competitions. [pitstop]
Hey hey happy I have a dish for tv and they have an array of good music stations that i enjoy ! The only other time after that is when I am driving in the car , or going on a big trip . Still even then i will make a mix cd of fav music. [metschica25]
I think so. I still listen. Not as much. I listen more to internet radio but I still turn on the old free one once in a while. Maybe I am just old school enough but I can't imagine not have radio at all. [Ruthep]
yeah i still listen to a few radio stations, Alot of the time i will listen to my ipod in the car but somtimes it dies or i happen to forget my ipod at home and i will listen to the radio instaid cause there are staions that play the kind of music i like it is also good to listen to the radio somtimes to find out about the news if you cant watch it. [wadeys]
I listen to the radio when I'm in my car and get tired of playing my CDs (yes, I still use CDs instead of an iPod plugged in). It's a bit refreshing and somehow comforting to have the option of radio stations still available; it's interesting because listening to radio stations is a good way to learn about artists that I otherwise wouldn't have heard of. happy [stagewhisper]
Yes, I still listen to the radio, It is sometimes also nice to listen to something you don't know what's playing on next or to something that you have not heard of in a long time. And it's good to also listen to news on the radio when you are lazy to read and watch tv. =o) [kidjuwee]
happywell i guess from some people.. and im one of thoselol..i really dont like putting something in my ears..im not comfortable with it..even though i have one and try it..i guess it goes with the age? [vanities]
I listen to radio stations a lot in my car. I dont know, but something about knowing which song will come next, and the fact that you can pause it and reply it, it takes away the thrill, i mean if a song that i have listened to a hundred times on my mp3 player pops up in the radio while i'm in my car, i would still be excited. I also like listening to online radios, such as last.fm. Not to mention, the radio is always new (well, the good stations of it), but on mp3 players, at a point or another, you must have listened to every track at least a hundred times. [Grimze]
I do still listen to the radio. I don't even think of carrying an MP3. I turn the radio on as soon as I start the car. [Thoroughrob]
yeah, i do. mainly i listen to the BBC, esp programme for kids, trust me, you can have a try, so cute the programme is, i can learn from it, like chant-- one potato, two potato, three potato four, five potato , six potato, seven potato more. haha, lovely isn't it? i also listen to their stories, fascinating. have a try. [gabbana]
Yes. Mostly in the car but when I am home and just want to hear music, I put on the stereo radio. Sometimes I put on the music stations on TV, too, but it does not sound as good. I still have a boom box, too, that I use outdoors. [nanajanet]
We do still listen to the radio.. We have one in each room of the house and have them tuned to the "oldies" stations.. Our son is constantly changing the channels to his preferred stations but we change them back. We also listen in the car when we are not listening to our favorite CD's.. I just love to hear the music without requesting and waiting for any certain songs.. [DonnaLawson]
i do listen once in a while especially while driving long distance but select the programs i listen to [BYOLA2871]
I still listen to the radio but I would have to say it is less than I used to. At home I now turn on the itunes on the computer or turn on the tv onto the music where I can access alternative, oldies, latin or whatever I feel like that day. In my car I have a gadget that allows me to play my ipod through the car radio so I listen to that in my car more than I do my cd's but still listen to the radio. There is a fairly new alternative radio station here and it is really good so I like hearing new tunes on it. There is always something new to hear. [ryzach]
Not really. I have it playing in the car pretty low. We actually have satalight radio in the car right now for a year since we just bought a new car so we listen to the country channel on there. Its ok but I wouldn't pay for it. [mflower2053]
Yes I do, specially when I'm in my car. I also listen to cd's or use my mp3 player, but radio is also a big choice of mine so I can get to knownew music and musicians, sounds and djs'... I also listen to the radio to hear the news, get info about the wheater, traffic... Yes, the commercials sometimes are annoying, but they need the publicity to live on! [chanfrado]
I love radio mirchi, local radio station here.wub I find many interesting topics being discussed in it along with 24 hr non stop music [pkraj111]
I still listen to the radio. I like to listen while I'm driving my car and station surf. I also sleep with the radio on. It helps me to not be worrying why I haven't fallen asleep yet. If I wake up at night the radio will be on to give my brain something to focus on other than why I woke up for no apparent reason. Imsomiacs have issues like that to worry about. Anyway, radio is still relevant today. [mlh8087]
yes, I still do, it was still enjoying and fun to listen in the radio. Especially if you're listening to you're favorite radio stations, kinda enjoying and quite curious to hear the songs that they're playing next. Also, sometimes. it was through radio, that I discover some new or some old songs that I like and then I'll just downloaded it afterward. happy [kylie_quistis]
Yes, i still listens to my favourite radio stations. I know it is nothing compared to these cool gadgets. I have them too. But its only to store my favourite songs and videos. But id rather listen to radio stations all day than had some ipod ear piece sticking to my ears and playing the same tunes over and over again. One disadvantage in it is, it makes me quite deaf. im muted to the whole world but my music. LOL In radio stations, i can hear a variety of music, if im feelin blue, ill just tune in to my favourite mellow rock stations. And it also give us informations on whats the music hit. And more important is, i can talk to anybody without shouting, "WHAT ARE YOU SAYIN AGAIN?" :D [sassyangelee]
I still listen to the radio. First of all, unlike some people, I like DJ's. I like to hear what they have to say between songs. Sometimes about the songs, sometimes just about life in general. I also like to listen to NPR. It's one of the better sources for news, and I love many of the shows, like Wait, Wait, don't tell me, This American Life, A Prairie Home companion, and Car Talk. Besides, how would I find out about new music without the radio? [DarkDancer]
I tend to listen to the radio in the morning on the way to work so i can hear the weather. Any other time I listen to my cd player or my MP3 player with the fm transmitter. [saundyl]
I am not fun of it but my husband really loves to listen a certain radio station everynight while laying down in bed until we fall asleep.Even i don't like to but still i can hear it until i am fully sleeping. [msedge]
I do not have an ipod or mp3. I love the radio. I love reggae so i have xm radio. I can listen to it 24 7 24 30 12 362. Since i have that i do not buy as many cd anymore. I already have 300 cd. [jdyrj777]
I listen to PBS in the car and sometimes at night [savypat]
Hardly ever. Not because of all the technology or whatever, I just have never really liked much of the music that is played. I like Pandora radio though. Then you can listen to whatever you want. But that's not really traditional radio. Sometimes I listen to it when I am in the car with my parents cuz they hate my music, or if I am driving and am too lazy to change the cd. [_sketch_]
I never requested songs as I rather play it myself then to hear it on the radio, when I listen to the radio I listen for new songs that I don't allready know and if I really like a song I will buy it or may even purchase a full cd if I really like the band or singer. For me radio is a medium to discover new music wink. [cyberfluf]
I guess you could say I'm still living in the past. I don't have an mp3 player or any cool gadgets. I still listen to the radio, because it usually plays songs that I might not have in my possession. If there's nothing on the radio, that's when I hook up my somewhat broken CD player to the tape deck in my car and jam away. Not to mention, there are some things that you can only hear on the radio, such as interviews, etc. Some people like talk radio or news radio stations. Plus, if I didn't listen to the radio, I think there would be a lot of songs that I just wouldn't know about. [samsrad]
I know I still listen to radio, mainly because of the humourous banter, the contests, someone selling something, or even mention of something in events that may be going on in the community. Plus, it's most likely the only acceptable thing to play in an office, because it's pretty guaranteed that there will be no cursing. [candymarie]
I still listen to the radio from time to time. Mostly when I have company over. Almost every time we have company over we have the radio on. Honestly I don't really listen to music that much any more, when I do I only listen to it for a while. I usually listen to my cd's that I have or the radio when company is over. I think radio's are still important, for one thing I think a lot of people still listen to them in the car. Another reason I think they are still important is to let you hear new songs. If we never listened to the radio I am sure there would be quite a few songs that we would never hear. [o2bnocn]
Yes I still do because it still feels good to hear a certain song right? Sometimes there are moments that when a song plays no matter how random it is, we would always feel good simply hearing it play. I think that there are still radio stations that are still relevant to the generation today. [magojordan]
I rarely ever listen to the radio any more. In fact, the only time that I hear the radio is when I am visiting someone or in their car. I want to start listening to a nice radio station on Sunday, because they play gospel, but I always forget to. I only listen to my Gospel tapes and CDs. I do not use plugs any more. I suffer from hearing loss in my left ear and I believe it is a result of loud music, So I stay away from that. [Rozie37]
I still listen to radio, although I don't listen much. I like the mix of music and the conversations or interviews. But I don't have much patience for commercials. Good thing they group it together at certain times. The thing is after a while the radio becomes background noise and I don't pay attention anymore. That's why I usually find classical music stations, classical is great background noise LOL [arkaf61]
Hello, even i listen radio 98.3FM, 94.3FM and radio mirchi(India).I think they are because when other entertainment sources are not available then we have to stuck to radio. Thanks. Have a great day.happy [shalu1975]
Yes I do. Usually turn it on when it is just me and my 5 year old daughter. We start dancing around the house to whatever is playing. iPods an Mp3 are wonderful. Most people put on head phones and listen to what ever they want. But there is a certain pleasure to be found in not shutting out the world. And going with the flow of what is playing on the radio. I found that with my child. I think it is wonderful. [ersmommy1]
yup!!! i do listen to radio though i hav a mobile,mp3 player..... in our gadgets v store d music v love n v may feel bored as v keep listening to d same music everyday...but if v listen to radio i feel refreshed by listening to something spl n new.... wat do u say???isnt it true??? [evamshi88]
Unlike many people here on earth, I admit that I am so much behind in the latest gadgets in technology. In fact, I only came close to listening to an iPod when one of my younger siblings lent me her unit several months back. Until now, my husband and I are still in the process of cleaning up all our monetary obligations. Hopefully, we'll be able to pay our loans with credit card companies, pawnshops, private individuals, government, and loan agencies, and by then, we'll be able to save some of our monthly salaries for our daughter's Education about a couple of years from now, along with having our own house and lot, and purchasing some equipments, gadgets, and furnitures for the family. At present, I still do rely heavily on radio stations for music and news reports. Here in the office, we do have and still use a radio for listening to music, updating ourselves with the current events, and occasionally, participating to various stations' promotional offers. You might find this funny but when I get older than today, I still wish to have my own transistor radio and listen to music, news, and real-life dramatizations or skits while I take care of our grandchildren. This is one of my simple wishes and my husband and siblings know of this already. In my heart, I believe that a radio station will never go out of style. [mykmari_08]
Yes, I still listen to the radio stations. I listen to my favorite station in the car each day to and from work. Also, my work has a radio and we keep it on during the day. [sweetgirl_k1]
When I'm driving in the car. My wife flips all over the radio. I have gotten used to it, but originally it was annoying. She'd hit a song I like and then keep going. Sigh. [DaddyOfTheRose]
Seldom to MUSIC stations, but talk radio is going GANGBUSTERS these days in terms of having an audience! I tune in DAILY. Always have, even as a teen. Maggiepie [Maggiepie]
I so still listen to the radio, but only while I'm driving. [kellys3ps]
yes i always lestening to the radio specially if i am in the kitchen.the first thing to do when i enter the Kitchen is to switch on the radio.music is my life and its inspiring me daily works.wink [bombshell]
Not usually. Really the only time I listen to music is in my car while I'm driving. I usually just play CDs. But sometimes I'll get sick of all my current music, but I'll be too lazy to burn or buy new CDs. So then I turn on the radio. The downside of the radio is definitely commercials. But what I really like about listening to the radio is that if something really major were to happen while I was driving, they'd report it on the radio. Also traffic and weather reports can be helpful! [trickiwoo]
When I get sick of listening to CD's n stuff the nyes I do listen 2 the radio in my car. But have the time I don't because usually the station sucks, or it doesnt come in all the way. Lately the songs have been overrated n palyed too much so I stick wit my cd's mostly...Wish I had mp3 capability in my car tho or else I would listen 2 that....Used 2 like the radio when they had decent music n not the same old songs everyday. [Blondie2222]
I still listen to the radio. I listen to talk radio in the morning and then through out the day I listen to music. [laglen]
yes, of course i still do. :) [chiyosan]
I still find it entertaining to listen to music in a radio than in any music player. I don't know but I feel it more personal and interactive (though the commercial is sometimes annoying) particularly if the DJ cracks some good jokes and showbiz news (or gossips)from time to time. Though the DJ are sometimes corny and crazy (or should we say most of the times) but this makes the radio more active and fun to listen and removed the boring moments of just listening plain to music. [tholitz]
I listen to SATELLITE radio stations lol. Sirius radio is the best invention ever! Well after the mp3 of course. happy [mommyboo]
yes I like listening to our local radio station a lot and even sometimes do that while mylotting. lol. When some answers come over to you a bit jumbled so you know why this is so [book1962]
