music Heals Do You Believe It

Music hath charm to soothe the savage beast. so the saying goes. Something I believe and most of us no doubt agree with me. Because our bodies function biologically in rhythms, people have a sensual and emotional reaction to music. We might have that one special piece of music that triggers strong emotions when we hear it. Other music has powerful impact on people, such as the "wedding march," "Hail to the Chief," the "Marine Hymn" and the "Star-spangled Banner." Sometimes a song triggers memories of great happiness or sadness. Providing someone you care about with a special piece of music can be a fabulous act of kindness. Songs that can help you to kindly celebrate special occasions from the heart are: "Seasons of the Heart" "As Times goes By" "Heart to Heart" "Bridge over Troubled waters" "Moon River" "Don't walk out on love" "Just the way you are" "you are so beautiful" I really love a song by Elton John often serenaded by my husband, "Something about the way you look tonight". The magic in this song lifts me up to cloud nine.Do you have any special sweet song that you really feel for? Add your own special songs to this list. Music has really created an impact on some people, and music has incorporated a special kind of feelings that touch my life in a special way.

I love those soothing music with meaningful lyrics. It slows down aging too. [zandi458]

I believe you zandi458. According to wikipedia search, Music is an art form whose medium is sound organized in time. More so; it is any agreeable (pleasing and harmonious) sounds Music goes a long way in healing the heart of the broken hearted, raising emotions, inpiring and it has a lot of motivation in it. I love music so much and if you look at it critically, you will realize that music part of human nature. I think we (human) can not live without music. I love; Our Father by Don Moen, a new day by Celine Dion and lots more. Thanks and have a blissful season. seasons greetings! [thefuture]
Music has been known to have a very direct effect on people's moods. By just listening to music, people's moods are easily altered. What is life without music, it will be dull and boring. I love music especially with good lyrics. Celine Dion is a great singer and I do love most of her songs. Season greetings to you and family too. [zandi458]

How right you are!! It brings to mind an experiment that was done years ago, where plants were placed next to the source of music and were attracted to grow toward Classical music but AWAY from Rock music!!! Once I took an LP to a friend that was very ill in the hospital because he had a portable record player and loved BJ Thomas, he became so happy I swear it helped him get better. His wife couldn't get over it. If I were to list my favorites there wouldn't be space, but you did remind me of "The Way We Were", awsome song! By the way, right down your husband's alley, Tom Jones sang several songs I really liked and one of them was "Laura". Good to have you here again! [mechanicNOT62]
God is fair, he did not give me the talent in singing but he gave me ears and eyes in appreciating good music. I listen to keroke singing every night in my pub but never attempted to hold the mike, am frighten to hear my own voice LOL. I am really a write off when it comes to singing but my feelings for good lyrics always affect me emotionally and more often bring tears to my eyes when I hear sad love songs. It brought back past heart wrenching memories where I was once there. [zandi458]

wow you mentioned moon river...it is one of my favorite song and also fly me to the moon..they are oldies but i like them because of the lyrics...when they are played in the radio i feel light and calm and it brings back many memories of the past. [andak2007]
Thats the beauty of music, it brings back past memories. I love oldies too, that was my time anywhere. [zandi458]

Ever since Mr and Mrs caveman went around beating on logs and humming under their breath music has been part of being human, I think it has power far beyond what we now know. So yeas I think it can heal. [savypat]
lollol Mr and Mrs caveman were the initiators of this modern day music. But the new age songs are nowhere compared to those evergreen melodies. They never seems to fade with time. [zandi458]

I listewn to a lot od gospel music, and it really moved in my soul, there is always a song I can play on my CD player, that has me singing or dancing around the room, I love music, and I like to listen to music, that lift me up somethng to make me happy when I am sad, I have a big music collection.happy [notlistening2]
I love listening to spiritual and holistic music too. It is really uplifting and brings us closer to the creator with those angelic voices. [zandi458]

Absolutely. Elvis Jail rap. [choudhary03]
Songs by this singer is also very romantic and have nice lyrics. [zandi458]

mine and hubbieds was Have I told you lately that I Love you when we palyed it he would sing and do hand movements that made it all the more special! I still cant listen to it with out tears coming to my eyes. [Lakota12]
yes we do and today will be hard as it was 4 years ago at 6.10 pm he passed away. we did have him home awhile before. [Lakota12]

Yes i agree, sometimes when i fell lonely and sad i just sit in one corner and i sing my favorite song and it make me feels good and glad. Well i dont have a good voice but when i sing i kind a feel that i am releasing bad energies within me =) [pitsay]
Singing your favorite songs does release tension. That is good for you. [zandi458]

I don't know much about the healing power of music on human psychology. I do believe that sometimes, I felt stress, and tired. One or two soothing songs, such as Enya and other languages of cultural theme might help me escape the zone of constant thinking for while. I don't like the idea of playing rap and noise making music, it just irritate me a little or make me not concentrate on the work on hand. [jzbrynn]
I don't like those new generation songs such as hip hop and hard rock songs. They don't have meaningful lyrics and is too hard on the ears. [zandi458]

HI FRIENDS Yes i do believe that music heals. When i am stressed ,i listen to some nice music and my stress runs away from me.When i am gloomy and worried ,i listen to some nice songs which pacifies me and calms me down and they energise.I love to listen to old hindi melodies and would love to listen to devotional songs which gives me bliss. Bye!!!!!!!! [23uday]
Some hindi songs are very catchy and is followed by graceful movement when I see it in movies though I have no personal collection of hindi CDs. [zandi458]

Mothers sing to their infants to calm them and get them to sleep. Lovers sing to the object of their affection to attract them. Depending on the songs I am listening to it will change my mood. I enjoy music very much and listen to all genres. If I started to make a list of my favorite songs there would be no end to it. [savak03]
I have to agree. Hip hop, rap and heavy metal are often just vulgar noise designed to shock the listener. I actually prefer country music the most but I also enjoy easy listening, soft rock, and big bands. [savak03]

Hi zandi, when I was a kid my dad use to play songs over the cassete tape, he meant for him but he didn't know that his daughter really like to hear them also, lol. 'Bridge over trouble waters' will make me calm and send me to sleep. 'Just the way you are' was the one who trigger my interest in learning english words. As I grow older my favorite relaxing song was 'Fragile' by Sting. [HiLia2008]
Bridge over trouble waters is an evergreen song and I love to hear this song. It is a nostalgia and gives me good feelings listening with its beautiful lyrics. Some composers are really genius to come up with songs that have the staying power. [zandi458]

I truly believe that music has an actual physical effect on our bodies. Sounds are made by vibrations in the air - and when they hit something, they cause the molecules in those other things to vibrate in time with themselves. I think we are just beginning to understand how profoundly those vibrations can affect us - not only changing our emotions, but actually physically affecting our bodies, and possibly healing physical illnesses. [chameleonsdream]
Yes, music has the sound effect on our bodies. I never tire of listening to music as it really makes my mind go along the lyrics to understand what the singer is trying to deliver in his song. The soothing melodies untangle our stressful mind. [zandi458]

Medically speaking music soothes mind and hence increasing its usage....as brain activity increases and brain controls the whole body so healing is elevated....any kid of healing...that can be from a wound or from a hurt feeling.... so music is another god....what do u say zandi?? [postingismoney]
Hi Post, you have it right. The power of music and sound to invoke healing has been well known throughout the ages. [zandi458]

Truly, music can heal.. music affects the mood of a person.. of course it depends on the kind of music you listen to.. One of the cause of sickness is stress, and stress could be relieve by relaxation.. and music can induce relaxation [swanniesbaby]
Yes, music can play a significant role in distressing ourselves and relax our mind and body. [zandi458]

I agree with you - music heals. Lately I like to hear opera singers (I hated them till not long ago), and classic music. I guess taste changes with the age...No, I'm not old! Check out "IL DIvo" - they are 4 tenors singing together - fantastic! Also Andrea Bocceli, a great one! It feels so good when I listen to them, I sing along, and forget about the daily worries. [ladynetz]
I often do that when I am sad or worried I just relax and listen to instrumental music and soon the worries just evaporates into the thin air. Try that out, music has got its healing power on human emotion. [zandi458]

I love music no matter what time of day, but especially after a long day I'll put on some upbeat music and just belt out the stress of the day (however badly I do ><) and it makes me feel all the more better. [MagicKira]
I love music, it leaves a good feeling after a stressful day. [zandi458]

I believe that music does heal, in that it is very therapeutic. Music triggers the most sensitive, deepest depths of the soul, in addition to charging and lifting the spirit. There are times when some songs are so good and so beautifully sung by the singer or band, that I am deeply moved to tears. Songs that I consider to be tear jerkers are: Jesus Take The Wheel by Carrie Underwood It's Not Over by Daughtry Home by Daughtry I Hope You Dance by Leann Womack Isaac by Madonna Miles Away by Madonna Summertime (Fantasia's rendition as well as the rendition sung by the original singer who recorded the song many many years ago.) What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong [Keola12]
You have a good number of songs in your collection. I have not heard of that song Jesus Take the Wheel. As a christian I go for spiritual songs too. I am also very emotional when I hear certain songs. I have the feel of the song. [zandi458]

Hi zandi! I do so agree with you about songs triggering some kind of memories when you here them. They can take you back to a place and time and bring on such a strong feeling like you were there all over again! There are just so many songs that I feel that way about that have moved me to that place and time in my life for different reasons. "Stairway to Heaven" is one of those. "Us and Them" by Pink Floyd is another and actually the whole "Dark Side of The Moon" album just brings me back to a certain time in my life that I love to remember. And then there are so many by the Beatles that I couldn't begin to list them. I think they have the number one place in heart when it comes to love songs. As I said, I could go on and on! A song can take you back like nothing else can! I love music, music is in my heart and in my soul and will remain that way forever... [Opal26]
Hi Opal, I think we share the same love for music. Some songs brings us back to beautiful memories and some bring tears. I think only music can rekindle the good times we once had or the bad side of it. Which ever years the song was on hit it sure has some good memories. Music sure makes me feel younger. [zandi458]

hi zandi Very true, I think music really changes and tunes ur mood to mood of which it itself is.............this ias sort of a situation u come across when you see a chils responds by smiling when he sees everyone smiling and cries if oyhers do so..........just the same with music.....if its a milancholy we feel emotional.....when its a dance no. we feel like dancing, when its melody we are lost in some beautiful world.........when gloomy i think one must listen to a healing music which pleasant to ears, and soothing ..... [singh007divya]
that is the magic of music that can transform our mood. We will always feel the different kind of feelings depending on what kind of songs we are listening. [zandi458]

Yes, I believe music heals. Music not only heals, it can be related to an spur any emotion or feeling within us. I listen to music throughout the day; all types. Depending on my mood, I turn on a happy song such as 'summertime' by Mungo Jerry. If I am feeling down, I might play a sad song. Either way, music helps me relax and relate to anything current in my life. [mayhem23]
Music is the only consolation when nothing else can ease the pain. It uplift the spirit in a moody situation. [zandi458]

I do believe the healing power of music especially if I sing those healing songs of christian music. I forget all my worries if i was singing in the choir even though it was practice only. it makes me feel fine and happy my spirit which given me the strong body and courage. I love to sing if I feel I was lonely and feeling down. Music is the best for me to rely on what ever emotions I have. [mods196621]
You're right holistic songs are no less in healing effects. Music brings healing nourishment when we're sick. [zandi458]

I believe that Music can heal all human. When you are in bad mood, listen music can recover your mood and it is not harm to our healty. No like somking will cause our healty!I LIKE MUSIC! [boonkid]
Yap.. Music is Life! [boonkid]

lots of songs evoke strong feelings for us. Some because of their rhythm and some because they remind us of something past whether good or bad. I have a lot of songs that give me strong feelings a few are: "In your wildest dreams" - Moody Blues "Think of Donna" - Cristopher Cross and much more... [anaknitatay]
music lovers sure know how to appreciate good music and brings back memories of yester years. [zandi458]

I don't believe that it has miraculous power or that it heals but music can set you in the right frame of mind. It can sooth your nervousness and clams you down a bit. © ronaldinu 2008 [ronaldinu]
calming and soothing the nerves from the effect of musical melody leads to speedy recovery of any illness. [zandi458]

As a musician and a therapist, I can testify to the fact that music does heal. Listening to it, or if you can play an instrument, playing it can lift the spirits and reduce stress, which is particularly beneficial during times of illness. I have written further about it on my website for anyone who is interested - http://tinyurl.com/5fngsw [derek_a]
I love to hear from people like you who are knowledgeable in music and create an awareness that music is indeed beneficial to human life. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out later. [zandi458]

Music is my only resort - my only medicine to fight out those dark and endless ocean of frustration that comes up sometime taking full control over my thought process. Undoubtedly, Elton has a very soft 'throw' of words - that creates an imagery when I listen to his albums. Regarding my special song - it is 'Thanks you' by Ryan Houston. It transpires a special meaning to me. [nilzerous1]
Thanks I'll check that out [zandi458]

Yes, it is true and music can keep us alive!winkhappy [olivemai]
I agree! Although it may depend on what kind of music! [olivemai]

I've been witness to music healing. My husband had open heart surgery at a young 47 years old. When I finally got to see him in the CCU (cardiac care unit) one of the first things he wrote in a note, "Bring me my music." Now here's what you may not know about music: it doesn't matter what kind of music, it matters what music the person likes. My husband loves jazz, all kinds. Amazingly to all the nurses when I arrived the next morning ALL the patients slept through the night more comfortably! They attributed it to playing my husband's music at a low level and it's calming affect on all the other patients. [patweber]
Hah a good account of what music can do to the sick. I should think that all hospital wards should try this out by piping soft soothing music in the words, the patients might recover from their illnesses faster. [zandi458]

The song that my boyfriend and I just love is 1, 2, 3, 4 by Plain White T's. t makes us happy every time we hear it. Plus many numerous other songs. He loves romantic songs, so whenever he hears one on he will stop and sing it to me. I definitely believe that music has the way to make people have different emotions. I love singing and my life always feels better when I sing to my favorite songs every morning. I have always had that type of a connection to music. [rvangeld]
I have never come across that song you mentioned. Am a bit outdated but I am into oldies. [zandi458]

I love music and yes, it does have healing properties, just like laughter. When you are happy you release endorphins (I call them happy hormones). We have more of them when we are younger and lose more as we age, they are what heals the body. So the more laughter and good feelings you have, the more you will have. [nanajanet]
Hi nana, as we are getting older I think we should spend more time listening to good music to revive that 'happy hormones' to prevent old age sickness from licking into our bodies.lol [zandi458]

Yes, I believe that. All depends what type of music you like, I suppose. I, personally, like to listen to soulful music when I'm sleeping. Gives me interesting dreams and I usually wake up feeling good. Interesting thought. I do love most types of music, C&W and head-banging stuff excluded. But I sing all the time and have my Windows Media player on almost all day. Especially love it when I'm cleaning (and drinking). [Polly289]
It is good to listen to music all day long. Music is part of me and I have endless music drumming in my place as I am running a keroke where I sell hard drinks and people drink and sing when they patronize my shop. I am staying just above my shop so music is very much part of my daily life. [zandi458]

Yes I believe Music heals, they use it in the Hospital for sick people they call it Music Therapy. Haven't you heard of this? Music Is good for your soul. I love music it make we feel good, and when I have something on mind mind I will play some soothing music. Soft rock or something like that. I like a Piano too. it soumnds so good and it is soothing to me,A Guitar is to. Happy Holidays. [marciascott]
I have not heard of music therapy. Yes, piano is a good relaxing music. I have it played whenever I need some soothing music. [zandi458]

Hello my dear zandi458 Ji, I believe 100%, during time of Akbar in our country, he had a Minister by name 'Tansen', who was capable of curing people by music, bringing rain and so on. Music has an important roll in our life. I would say that music is life , no life without a ppartner, same thing goes. I have done my course in 'Tabala'. In fact music brings harmony. We listen music and some words automatically come-out from our mouth in its appriciation. It happens, because all our blood is totally purified. So music is life. I like very soft music, which I should be able to listen myself only, without any disturbance to others. i do not want to advertise it. may od bless you and have great time here at myLot. [maygodblessu44]
Hello my friend Zandi458 Ji, I do appriciate your observation, I would happy to clear my point, by say that I do not wat to advertise, I mean that I do not want to disturb others by disturbing and diverting their minds, which may cause less paecful to them. So, I believe in slow music and I should be able to follow, grasp and should go deep into my blood for its effects. I understand, it is contrdictory to my young-age choice, when I liked bettle dance and ' R & R' music, it used to be very fast. As I have crossed my 70 yrs, I have come down to slow and soft music. May God bless You and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]

Yes music heals, because music is a blend of life put into sounds and vibrations and rhythms. Music helps me get through my every day as well as other precious things that are part of our lives. I believe in everything I come into contact with and it's seemed to pay off. [jambi462]
Human life is benefited greatly from relaxation and peace from music. [zandi458]

I know it does. It helped me last Wednesday...it was one of those days at work where everyone was in a mood...and someone snapped on me and of course I walked away clampin my mouth shut...didn't speak to soul as I headed out the door...and when I started my car...well I forget who the song is by...short little guy I know...anyways the song was "You can me Al..." It makes me smile everytime I hear it. And it was destined for me to hear that day. "If you'll be my bodyguard, I can be you long lost pal...If I can call you Betty well Betty then you can me Al....call me Al..." Fun times. [taface412]
i know a friend here in mylot named Al...is a great lover of music and should he come to this post, I dedicate this song of "You can me AL... to him. Music is used for entertainment and enjoyment; it is also a vital food which can nourish our minds and bodies. [zandi458]

I do not doubt this one bit. I always use music and only music to cheer me up or calm me. I normally just play what i feel like, but if you're looking for some love songs: Wonderwall, Oasis Warmness On The Soul, Avenged Sevenfold Seize the Day, Avenged Sevenfold and thats about all i can think of... [Keyabori]
Haha, yeah, im all about the new age.... [Keyabori]

I think to some extent that it can. I guess this is another one of those things that the answer all depends on how you I feel. It usually heels when I am depressed or if I am sad though. It can also make you happy, when you I am already feeling good. [cortney09]
Fine, music is effective in lifting up your mood. It is a universal language and everyone has benefited from listening to good music. [zandi458]

I belive it.I liked my boyfriend singing to me but now he left. But I still love music and listen if I was free.It give me much feelings and nice reverie. [candycherry]
Unfortunately, but without your boyfriend you can always listen to music to bring back fond memories of him. [zandi458]

Yes I believe it. When I am feeling upset, angry or depressed I woudl normally play one fo my favorite CD's or just sing to myself and those negative feels slowly go away and they are replaced with peace of mind. My favorite is Whitney Houston - When you believe! [gtdonna]
That is the magic of music, it uplift the spirit of the listener when they are in a depressed mood. [zandi458]

Yes I believe it. When I am feeling upset, angry or depressed I woudl normally play one fo my favorite CD's or just sing to myself and those negative feels slowly go away and they are replaced with peace of mind. My favorite is Whitney Houston - When you believe! [gtdonna]
Whitney Houston is a great singer, I quite like her powerful vocal. [zandi458]

wow...i don't know that music can heal... but..what i know, i can't be separated from musics... my day'll be so miserable if i don't listen to musics.. hehe...i think i'm gonna try to look forward for the songs that u've listed... especially the "something about the way you look tonight [haqita]
'something about the way you look tonight' sure brings sparkle to my mood. I never tire of listening to this beautiful number. You will not realise why you keep on listening to music, it makes your day bright. You will never feel down when you have music all day long.happy [zandi458]

yes i do believe that music heals in many ways.... there are a couple of songs that i love too..... when i am depressed i listen to a number and just lay back and relax...it all goes away.... when i am tensed, when i am angry when im elated.... every emotion and feeling has a song attached to it....if not a song then some music...maybe instrumental..... there are times when you just are relaxing and there comes a song which you ahve never heard of before ..... and then the song brings in totally new emotions into ourselves..... some may not like it and turn it off some may love it and keep listening to it every day there are many songs which gives inspiration..... to do something.... a push....to acheive what you want from life..... so i do believe that music does heal [shonali]
well i ahve heard of that but never really seen any documentaries of such things happening though i know there were some programs on this.... i would really love to see these programs made on such practices like the ones that they have with HEALING WITH ANIMALS [shonali]

It not only heals but music makes me fall asleep too.. lollollol [Llonorra22]
soothing and soft music can induce sleep [zandi458]

Yes, Music is a healer of any kind of problems. People with asthma if they can sing that works as a breathing exercise. I had severe asthma, I used to get hospitalized 3 - 4 times a month out of 365 days in a year I used get hospitalized at least 150 days, but I realized I can sing. Many people told me to do breathing exercise everyday, and I started to sing gradually my asthma attacks reduced and now I hardly get it. When I sad or upset or any emotional distress I listen to melodies music that will energize me and I am back on the track. Music has helped many people whom I know. [eshwarik]
Oh it did have some effect on asthma, glad it has helped in your case. So this can turn out to be something good for you. Should sing more often then. [zandi458]
